An outstanding pair of flintlock pistols
dating: mid-18th Century
Rifled, round, 14 mm cal. barrels with square base, the first part and the tang finely chiselled and gilt with effigy of warrior, mask, trophies and floral motifs, numbered 9 and 10, provided with silver foresights; flintlocks with convex plate chiselled with hunting motifs on gilt ground; wooden full stocks (few cracks), sculpted with floral motifs; steel mounts decorated en suite, with hounds at the counter-plates, cherubs at the trigger guards; at the butt-plates effigy of busts, figures, masks and hunting scenes; small shields with neoclassical busts; mechanic with set trigger. Bone-tipped wooden ramrods. Beautiful pair of luxury pistols with outstanding mounts, rifled barrels and set triggers. The numbers on the barrels (9 and 10) suggest that these pistols belong to an important armoury, considering the quality from a noble family.
