Title: Museum anatomicum Academiae Lugduno-Batavae
Author: Eduard Sandifort - Eduard Sandifort was a Dutch physician and anatomist. He received his medical doctorate degree (Ph.D.) from Leiden University in 1763, and worked as a general practitioner in The Hague. He was fluent in Dutch, German, Swedish, and Italian. He became a professor of anatomy and surgery in 1771 at Leiden University. His most important writings are "Observationes Anatomico-pathologicae" (1778), "Excercitationes anatomicoacademicae" (1783-85), and the "Museum Anatomicum Academiae Lugduno-Batavae" (1789-93), which was finished by his son, Gerard Sandifort (1779-1848). Sandifort translated Nils Rosén von Rosenstein's "Underrättelser om barn-sjukdomar och deras botemedel" ("The diseases of children, and their remedies") to Dutch in 1768. Sandifort was elected in 1768 as a foreign member of the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences in Stockholm. (Biographical information courtesy of Wikipedia)

Condition / Notes: This antique folio set is bound in full leather. Volumes have been rebacked. Spines display raised bands and gilt-lettered spine labels. Front and rear covers of books show wear, with cracking at edges and minor loss of original material visible at professionally repaired corners. Bindings are firm. Volumes have edges tinted red. Small antique library bookplate can be seen on front pastedowns. Previous owner's signature appears in top margin of title pages and at top edge of front flyleaf of second volume. Endpapers display darkening at edges. Pages exhibit foxing throughout, though usually heaviest at margins. This work is illustrated with striking full-page tissue-guarded anatomical plates which are largely clean and bright.
