Description: Lemuel T. Ward (1896-1983)-An animated full-size preening Canada goose resting on a burl base. This important and highly publicized carving along with the famous Canada goose used as The Ward Museum's logo are considered two of Lem Ward's crowning achievements. Both wings are lifted from the body giving Lem a tremendous canvas to exhibit his exceptional feather painting ability. The integrated carved feathers of primaries, secondaries and the broad fan tail further demonstrate this makers design abilities. The long reaching head features glass eyes and deeply carved bill detail with a through nostril. The left leg grounds the bird by extending across the base. Metal plaque on base stamped "Preening, By L. T. Ward," and "1969" is written in pencil below.

Condition Report: In excellent original condition with line of paint shrinkage where back of left wing meets body.
