Description: Alken, Henry. A Panorama of the Progress of Human Life, fashionably display'd. Illustrating Shakespeare's Ages and giving at the same Time the Manners, Costume, Amusements and the Field Sports of the English People. Hand-colored aquatint panorama, 68x 4510 mm 2.625 x 164inches , attached at right end to spindle and at left end to roller in slightly worn original pictorial wooden cylindrical case; torn at right end and repaired with loss of left half of the first vignette and right half of the second, scattered other minor repairs on verso, spindle reattached. London, 1820 E2500-3500 The Rarest Of Alken's Panoramas, comprising 35 reduced adaptations of his designs for The National Sports of Great Britain. J. R. Abbey's Copy, With his initialed inventory number on the base dated 30 November 1935 Abbey Life 474 this copy; Schwerdt III, 2 Accompanied By The 1930 Facsimile of the panorama published by Schwerdt, in which he notes that he could locate only 2 copies of the original; and By The 1948 Facsimile citing only 3 known copies.
