Description: Nara Period (8th Century) Of low-fired reddish-clay pottery with globular body, everted mouth, rounded base, solid triangular handle, painted in dark grey pigment on one side with a human face, large rim chip, with fitted box labelled and inscribed to the effect that this Lot was excavated in Hachioji City (near Tokyo) 4 9/16in. (11.6cm.) high NOTES The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd thermoluminescence test, no. N101x43, is consistent with the dating of this lot.
