Bamboccianti
Group of painters active in mid-17th-century Rome who worked in the manner of Pieter van Laer, called il Bamboccio, from whom the name derives. They specialized in bambocciate, small works representing trivial or base subjects related to contemporary Italian life. Except for the native Roman Michelangelo Cerquozzi, the principal Bamboccianti were all of Dutch, Flemish, German or French origin. They included Jan Miel, Johannes Lingelbach, Andries and Jan Both, Karel Dujardin, Thomas Wijck, Michiel Sweerts
