American Impressionism is a style of the late 19th and early 20th century that loosely followed the tenets of the French Impressionists of the 1860s and 1870s. After the Civil War, America enjoyed a period of economic prosperity, in which travel to Europe became common for those interested in the cosmopolitan experience.
