Neue Sachlichkeit
Term applied to the representative art that was developed in Germany in the 1920s by artists including MAX BECKMANN, OTTO DIX and GEORGE GROSZ. The term MAGIC REALISM is associated but not directly related to it. The use of Neue Sachlichkeit may derive from the Dutch word zakelijkheid, which was used from c. 1900 to describe the work of such Dutch architects as H. P. Berlage; this was followed by nieuwe zakelijkheid used from 1923
