Known for her avant-garde and seductive style during the 1920s, her trend setting designs paved the way for what fashion has become today. Coco Chanel became the first great couturière because she adopted a new androgynous style made out of jersey. By the early 20s, Chanel launched her signature cardigan jacket and the following year matched its success with her versatile, semi-formal "little black dress". Both pieces quickly became a Chanel trademark and an enduring fashion standard. To the jacket, she added the luxury Chanel Classic Flapbag 2.55, named after its launch in February 1955. Coco Chanel died on 10 January 1971 at the Hotel Ritz in Paris where she had a residence for more than 30 years. Since 1983, Karl Lagerfeld has been creative director of Chanel's fashion house. His contemporary creations are marked by unconventionality, perfectionism and uniqueness. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.

The pieces come in the original Chanel box.CHANELGabrielle Bonheur Chasnel, also known as Coco Chanel, is one of the most influential fashion designers of the 20th century.

Korean

Lot 433: Korean "Ode to Autumn" Fan Painting by Lee Nam Ho

by Showplace Antique & Design Center

February 8, 2015, 1:00 PM EST

New York, NY, USA

Estimated Price: $850 - $1,000

Description: "Ode to Autumn," a fan painting by Lee Nam Ho, a.k.a. Geum Chu (1908-2001), one of Korea's most famous contemporary artists. Ho worked in the traditional style, and this piece is beautifully framed and newly silk mounted. The sparrow sings to the beautiful flower of autumn, the camellia, an ancient symbol of faithfulness in Korea. The bamboo on the right is a symbol of resilience and integrity. When faced with a strong wind, the bamboo bends but does not break, just as the person with determination and principle, even when pressed down, doesn't give up and remains standing. The rock is a symbol of eternity, and when paired with bamboo and camellia, is a poetic representation of eternal adherence to principle and undying faithfulness. Ink and colors on paper. Korea, 20th century; inscribed. Dimensions: approx. 34-3/4" W x 19" H including frame; image area approx. 22-1/2" W x 11-1/2" H.
