Handmade Chinese Zisha / Purple Clay Handle Teapot w Artist Signature

by Quan Rong Gallery

July 26, 2014, 1:00 PM EST

Chatham, NJ, USA

Estimated Price: $600 - $800

Description: Handmade Chinese Zisha / Purple Clay Handle Teapot w Artist Signature Dimension: 140*106*164(mm) 5.51*4.17*6.46(in) Weight 0.95 lbs/430g Zisha ware, especially zisha teapots, is one of the mysterious arts of China's Ming and Qing Dynasties. One of the great mysteries of this art is that while there are many historical records documenting this art, to this day its history and makers still remain relatively unknown. Another particularity of this art is its material—although ceramics were invented by many world cultures and share many common characteristics, including common ceramic clay materials, purple clay has only been discovered in Yixing China. To this day, ordinary people have a difficult time telling the authentic purple clay from other similar ceramic clays. Zisha’s beauty is dependent on its unique dark and matte color. Of the many zisha forms, it is the zisha teapot, which is most cherished because it is beautiful as well as functional. To fully experience these teapot’s beauty we must appreciate tea and enjoy drinking tea. During the tea ceremony, we communicate with the pot and can sense its beauty during the entire process. If we only buy zisha teapots as an investment to put in the closet, then we loose the ability to fully enjoy the teapot. The total weight does not include the base. The base is not included after you have won the auction.

by ArtVipCharity.com

July 26, 2014, 10:00 AM PST

Santa Fe, NM, USA

Estimated Price: $1,100 - $1,400

Description: Modigliani Artist's Wife Lithograph. The signature is in the plate. Approx 24x32 Custom framed. Limited edition. Includes certificate of authenticity.

Condition Report: This is new in mint condition. During the early 1900s in Paris, the Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani, born 1884,died 1920, developed a unique style. Today his graceful portraits and lush nudes at once evoke his name, but during his brief career few apart from his fellow artists were aware of his gifts. Modigliani had to struggle against poverty and chronic ill health, dying of tuberculosis and excesses of drink and drugs at the age of 35. In 1906, Modigliani settled in Paris, where he encountered the works of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Georges Rouault, and Pablo Picasso (in his blue period) and assimilated their influence. The strong influence of Paul Cezannes paintings is clearly evident, both in Modiglianis deliberate distortion of the figure and the free use of large, flat areas of color. His style is distinguished by strong linear rhythms, simple elongated forms, and verticality.
