Rowling (J.K.) -

Lot 252: Rowling (J.K.) - "Personal Horoscope Roger Julian Tosswill",

by Dreweatts & Bloomsbury

April 9, 2015, 1:00 PM GMT

London, United Kingdom

Estimated Price: £10,000 - £15,000

Description: comprising laminated allegorical colour title in ink & coloured pencil containing the relevant astrological sigils, within blue card frame, hand-drawn natal chart on white paper with printed title and key, 10pp. typescript on yellow card providing explanatory note and detailed horoscope describing the sun sign, ascendant, ruling planets, significant conjunctions and oppositions, with the resultant character traits to expect and likely compatibility with other star signs, hole punches and ribbon ties, tears at hole punches to 2 ff., overall in very good condition, folio, n.d. "'My dears, it is time for us to consider the stars The movements of the planets and the mysterious portents they reveal only to those who understand the steps of the celestial dance. Human destiny may be deciphered by the planetary rays, which intermingle...'", Professor Trelawney, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire , 2000. An excellent and highly collectable work by J.K. Rowling , featuring unpublished text and illustrations, and providing an interesting insight into her own enthusiam for the "dark arts", as well as her introduction and development of the Professor Trelawney character in the Harry Potter books for which the author is still most renowned. This horoscope was written whilst the author was working on Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone , and throughout echoes the wry humour and fanciful wit so associated with the author, but combined with a surprising depth of knowledge of the art and history of Astrology, referencing for example The Kalendar and Compost of Shepherds (printed in Paris by Guy Marchant in 1493). The section headings are delightful, including "The Millionaire Inventor" and "Weddingphobe seeks Fiercely Independent Woman for Loving Life".

Estimated Price: $100 - $300

Description: This charming booklet tells the stories of Bronco John, with illustrations. The introduction reads: I put this little work before the public in order to help to exonerate the many wrong statements concerning my class, and trust that it will meet with success. I am writing a large book of my experience, and it will be a true history of the Cowboys' past life on the plains. Anyone who may wish to write me can do so, in care of New York Clipper, New York City. I hope that this book will be the means of guiding you safe to happy homes beyond the Rockies. Yours truly, J. H. Sullivan (Bronco John)" City: State: United States, Circa: 1888
