Estimated Price: €250 - €500

Description: 6 July 1864 LONDON. 10% Debenture of £500. black. Large format, with folds and a little staining. Formed London, around 1860, presumably to mine in Italy (name and text of share), but in fact mined gold at the new alluvial discoveries on the Arrow River, Otago, New Zealand. In 1862 the sailor William Fox discovered gold in the Arrow River. By the end of that year over 1,500 miners were camped along the river and a small canvas town had grown up by the Arrow River. In 1863 the population was around 300. At its height the town (Macetown) boasted a school, a church and two hotels. By 1865 most of the alluvial gold had been extracted and miners left for the gold fields of the West Coast. The company disappeared from records by the mid-1860s.
