Derringers with Brass Frames and Scarce Short Barrels -A) National Arms Co. Second Model Derringer This is one of the rarest matched pairs of derringers in existence. Only 200 National Arms. Co. The serial numbers are marked on the bottom of the barrels and the grips and rear straps are marked "BB 64" on A and "BB 66" on B. Rock Island, IL, USA

Estimated Price: $4,500 - $7,000

Description: Ithaca Auto & Burglar Model B Double Barrel Smoothbore Pistol, BATFE Registered & Transferrable "Any Other Weapon" Produced between 1925 and 1934, the Auto & Burglar Gun was pitched as just the thing for a homeowner or traveler to keep strapped to their nightstand or steering column to ward off burglars or bandits, while finding an audience with the private security forces of the day as well. Fitted with a single brass bead sight, with a solid rib between the "SMOKELESS POWDER STEEL" and "MADE IN U.S.A." marked barrels, and both sides of the frame decorated with a pointer in a field over the "AUTO & BURGLAR GUN/ITHACA GUN CO. ITHACA, N.Y." markings. Checkered forearm and pistol grip stock, with the latter showing a very sharp angle and pronounced web knuckle for recoil management. Manufacturer: Ithaca Gun Co Model: Auto & Burglar BBL: 10.125 inch solid rib Stock: Gauge: 20 Finish: blue/casehardened Grips: walnut Serial Number: 360985 Class: Class III Condition: Very fine, with 80% of the original blue finish, showing some light spotting and handling marks overall. Bright and vivid case colors are present on the frame. The trigger guard and break lever show evidence of reshaping, possibly being replacement parts taken from a standard Ithaca, and a trigger guard screw is absent. Stock is fine, with some light dents. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This is a smoothbore pistol, an "Any Other Weapon" as defined by the National Firearms Act and registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in accordance with said law. Rock Island, IL, USA

Estimated Price: $1,200 - $1,800

Description: Scarce "Any Other Weapon" Registered Harrington & Richardson Handy Gun Smoothbore Pistol Produced in the 1920s and 30s, the Handy Gun was marketed as an inexpensive and effective way of dealing with varmints at close ranges, and was the forefather of the modern rifled 45 Long Colt/410 "snake pistol". Fitted with a smooth forearm and pistol grip with prominent web spur. Manufacturer: Harrington & Richardson Inc Model: Handy BBL: 12 1/4 inch round Stock: Gauge: 410 Finish: blue/casehardened Grips: hardwood Serial Number: 36057 Class: Class III Condition: Very fine as modified (grip a non-factory period replacement), with 95% of the original blue finish, showing a few light scratches on the barrel and 97% vivid case color on the frame. The wood is very good, though the pistol grip is a custom replacement with a 1 1/2 inch crack extending from the front tang. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This is a smoothbore pistol, an "Any Other Weapon" as defined by the National Firearms Act and registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in accordance with said law. Marlin Model 1917

Lot 3467: Marlin Model 1917 "Potato Digger" Machine Gun with Tripod, BATFE Registered Deactivated War Trophy (DEWAT)

by Rock Island Auction Company

April 26, 2015, 9:00 AM CST

Rock Island, IL, USA

Estimated Price: $7,500 - $12,000

Description: Marlin Model 1917 "Potato Digger" Machine Gun with Tripod, BATFE Registered Deactivated War Trophy (DEWAT) Originally developed as the Model 1895 by John M. Browning, the "Potato Digger" was an early development in gas-operated firearms, using a gas port near the muzzle of the barrel to power a spring loaded lever arm to cycle the action. This arm, which projects down and out from the weapon with significant force during the firing cycle, is the source of the weapon's nickname. Originally manufactured by Colt, the production of the arm was taken over by Marlin Rockwell, who received the rights, the tooling, and the standing military contracts to the Russian and Italian governments. Primarily used as a training weapon by American forces, the Marlin found additional use as aircraft and tank armament, in addition to being issued to National Guard units and the North Russia and Siberia Expedition Forces sent to intervene in the Russian Civil War. Measuring 42 inches in overall length, the Marlin is fitted with a blade front and a flip-up elevation adjustable rear sight, with a heavily ribbed barrel and a wooden pistol grip. The barrel and receiver are separately marked with the 2-line New Haven address and caliber markings (the archaic "CAL 30 MODEL 1906" on the receiver to distinguish from the earlier 30 Krag and 30-03 rounds), and "J.A.D." on the receiver. A green painted brass tripod is included, properly configured to not interfere with the action arm, with traverse swivel, gear-driven elevation adjustment and a swiveling gunner seat/kneerest. Manufacturer: Marlin Arms Corp. Model: 1917 BBL: 27 3/4 inch round Stock: Gauge: 30-06 Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 2111 Class: Class III Condition: Very fine as deactivated, with 80% of the bright original blue finish, showing areas of brown patina and scattered handling marks. A few dings are visible on the wood grips, a few light chips on the seat, and 75% of the original green paint finish on the tripod. The arm cycles freely, with the muzzle and breech both welded and a number of internal parts removed/disabled during the deactivation. NOTE: This item is classified by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives as an Unserviceable Machine Gun or Deactivated War Trophy (DEWAT) in accordance with the terms of the National Firearms Act (NFA). Before bidding on this item it is the sole responsibility and obligation of the bidder/Class 3 FFL holder to comply and understand with all the State and Federal transfer laws and restrictions that apply in their current place of residence.

Documented One-of-a-Kind National Arms Co. Prototype Second Model Derringer

Lot 1307: Documented One-of-a-Kind National Arms Co. Prototype Second Model Derringer

by Rock Island Auction Company

April 25, 2015, 9:00 AM CST

Rock Island, IL, USA

Estimated Price: $1,000 - $2,000

Description: Documented One-of-a-Kind National Arms Co. Prototype Second Model Derringer This unique pistol is pictured on page 129 of THE DERINGER IN AMERICA VOLUME II by R.L. Wilson and L.D. Eberhart. The caption reads: " Prototype Second Model National. Serial no. 10, marked on the brass frame beneath rosewood grip. In an unfinished state, and believed employed to demonstrate the experimental lever blade ejector. The system works admirably but was never introduced to production. Collection of Bob Vanni, Bay State Arms. Co." The serial number in the caption must be an typographical error given that "11" is clearly stamped under the left grip panel, and the mill lines and other imperfections match the pistol pictured. It has a German silver half moon blade front sight, hammer groove rear sight, and no markings aside from the "11" on the frame and "X73" on the underside of the grips. The National Arms Company derringers were the predecessors of the Colt cartridge derringers produced after Colt purchased The National Arms Company in 1870. Manufacturer: National Arms Co Model: Derringer BBL: 2 1/2 inch round Stock: Gauge: 41 RF Finish: white Grips: rosewood Serial Number: 11 Class: Antique Condition: Good. This prototype has milling marks throughout with some brown patina forming in the recesses on the barrel and an aged patina on the frame which has some pitting on the back strap. The ill-fitting grips are fine with some edge and generally handling wear. The action is fine. Overall, an interesting link in the history of 19th century derringer cartridge pistols.

Lot 1596: Excellent Colt M16A1 Automatic Rifle, BATFE Registered Fully Transferrable Machine Gun

by Rock Island Auction Company

April 25, 2015, 9:00 AM CST

Rock Island, IL, USA

Estimated Price: $16,000 - $25,000

Description: Excellent Colt M16A1 Automatic Rifle, BATFE Registered Fully Transferrable Machine Gun This is an excellent example of a very desirable original Colt Firearms Division commercially manufactured, fully automatic M16A1 rifle. These original Colt fully automatic M16 series rifles are very desirable as they were produced exactly as their military counterpart using the same military grade, factory original parts.
