Bold early signatures of Alan B Shepard Jr, Virgil I Grissom, Walter Schirra, Donald K Slayton, John A Glenn Jr, Leroy S Cooper Jr and M. Scott Carpenter in either blue or black inks. In addition, under the seven astronaut signatures, there are two different cancelled stamp groupings: one cancelled on Jan 20, 1977, 10th anniversary of Grissom's death, and second Mar 20, 1976, 50th anniversary of the fueled rocket. Also includes the original purchase slip from dealer dated 11/3/1975 to the "Space Lady." Inscription on top appears to be in Shepard's hand. Book and jacket in good condition or better. Looks to be first editions of this complete volume set. Included with this collection is also An African Farm, paperback, 1892. The Lost Joy and Other Dreams, Boxes paper back, 1909. Silhouettes, 1909. Manners and Customer of the Japanese in the 19th century, 1841. The etchings and Other Prints of Jean Francois Millet, 1887. The Blue Flower, by Henry Van Dyke, 1911. Retold in English, Walner Brooks - Translations, 1906. They Symbol and the Saint, Christmas, 1926, Private Printing. With Trumpet and Drum, Eugene Field, 1895, and many others. A great selection of vintage books! Also includes 8 Full Sets plus misc. books of great short stories. To the best of estate knowledge these are all first editions. Also included are books such as A Child's Garden of Verses, by Robert Louis Stevenson, Short Story Classics Collection, over 75+ vintage books that would make a wonderful collection to anybody's library! Also included in this lot is The Harvard Classics (Missing 3 volumes of full set), plus book on Charles W. Eliot, President of Harvard University, Salesman's Sample Book, and 48 volumes. This was the famous collection of the 5 Foot Shelf of Books series. This set was published by P.F. Collier and Son, New York. William Patten spent many years in court with Collier over the publication of these books. This collection comes from William Patten of New York Estate, famed editor and illustrator, son of William Swift and Mary Hardman Patten.Ê Married to Grace Bigelow, whose grandfather was the John Bigelow of literary and political fame.Ê The memorabilia and items from this estate read like a ÒWhoÕs WhoÓ of New York elite families from the late 19th and early 20th century! William Patten was the youngest person to become Illustrator Editor at P.F. Collier's and Son.
