U.S. Marked Colt Woodsman Match Target Semi-Auto ?Pistol

Lot 6: U.S. Marked Colt Woodsman Match Target Semi-Auto ?Pistol

by Amoskeag Auction Co

August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $2,200 - $2,800

Description: serial #MT13743, 22 LR, 6 5/8" barrel with an excellent bore. Overall, this 1942 made pistol retains about 98% of the original blue finish. The finish is thinning on the grip frame with light silvering seen on the high edges, and scattered light scratches, minor pits and cleaned oxidation blemishes also present. This pistol was equipped with the wartime checkered plastic "Coltwood" extended base grips. They remain in excellent condition and have a circled Rampant Colt on each panel. The pistol is marked with the U.S. ordnance wheel with crossed cannons on the left front frame and Lt. Col. Guy H. Drewry's initials on the right side of the frame. All markings remain crisp except the ordnance wheel which is incomplete at the bottom, probably from hasty stamping. A single, correctly marked magazine is included with this first series pistol. This is a fine example of a U.S. marked Match Target with some light but, honest wear and use. (86520-186) {C&R} [Richard "Stretch" Kennedy Collection]

by Amoskeag Auction Co

August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $2,000 - $2,500

Description: serial #2487, 22 LR, 4 3/4" barrel with an excellent bore. This 1931 manufactured Ace retains about 90% plus of its original blue finish with heavy silvering present on the frontstrap and lighter silvering of the high edges and grip screws. Scattered light scratches and hand applied marks are also present. "SUI 11" has been hand stamped on the right side of the dust cover in front of the slide stop pin. The person applying the stamps was a little heavy handed as there is visible denting around the stampings. This is one of a number of Ace pistols purchased by the U.S. Government for the Infantry R.O.T.C. program at the State University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa (Colt 45 Service Pistols, Charles W. Claussen). The checkered walnut stocks are in good to very good condition with compression damage to the diamond points along with dents and handling wear. The pistol includes a pair of Colt magazines that lack the Ace Logo on the base plate. Both magazines are in very good to excellent condition. This 83 year old pistol retains plenty of condition and would a fine addition to any collection. (86520-2045) {C&R} [Richard "Stretch" Kennedy Collection]

Estimated Price: $2,000 - $3,000

Description: serial #12240, 38 ACP, 6" barrel with a very lightly frosted bore. The original factory blue finish on this crisp 1906 made pistol is in very good to excellent condition with about 90% remaining. U.S. Model 1911 Semi-Auto Pistol By Colt

Lot 72: U.S. Model 1911 Semi-Auto Pistol By Colt

by Amoskeag Auction Co

August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $1,000 - $1,500

Description: serial #570460, 45 ACP, 5" WWII era Springfield Armory barrel with an excellent bore. The arsenal applied Parkerized finish is in excellent condition with about 99% remaining. Light scattered scratches, some light silvering of the high edges and general handling wear are present on the metal surfaces. Most of the smaller parts such as the hammer, thumb safety, trigger to name a few have the black Colt style rough finish. The Keyes Fiber checkered plastic grips with reinforced holes and reinforcing ribs remain in near excellent condition. The slide on this arsenal rebuilt pistol was manufactured by A.J. Savage and is stamped with Frank Hosmer's inspection mark which appears above the firing pin stop. The frame has the later unfinished heart shaped opening and is marked with an eagle / S16 that is partially obscured from the refinish and hard to read. According to author Charles W. Claussen in Colt .45 Service Pistols and J.C. Harrison in U.S. Pistols & Revolvers 1909 - 1945 A.J. Savage produced a small number of slides some of which may have been accepted into Government service as field replacement parts. The pistol includes a single Risdon Mfg. Co. magazine. This is a uniquely opportunity to own a rebuilt 1911 with rare A.J. Savage slide. (86520-3913) {C&R} [Richard "Stretch" Kennedy Collection]

The checkered walnut grips with Rampant Colt medallions are in very good condition with light compression damage to the diamond points especially, on the high edges. Correct matching numbers appear on the slide and markings remain crisp. A single correctly marked nickel plated magazine is included with this fine specimen of a Type III pocket pistol. Very Rare Colt Model 1903 Hammerless Pistol With Factory Japanned Tin Shipping Box

Lot 146: Very Rare Colt Model 1903 Hammerless Pistol With Factory Japanned Tin Shipping Box

by Amoskeag Auction Co

August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $1,800 - $2,200

Description: serial #176877, 32 ACP, 3 3/4" barrel with a very good bore which shows strong evident rifling but with minor frosting and some light pitting within the grooves. The metal surfaces retain about 97 to near 98% original blue, the loss is due to some light sharp edge and high edge wear. Additionally the frame left and right show some light bite marks from a vise in the area of the serial number and above the triggerguard on the right side, for the most part it has not breached the blue. The checkered Rampant Colt hard rubber grips rate very good plus, the right grip with a small inclusion and some flattened points, the left showing only light wear. A single 2-tone magazine is included. The gun comes in a lovely purple-tone japanned-lacquered metal shipping box with appropriate blue end label with black print. The interior shows the appropriate Colt advertising appliqués and the exterior rates excellent with only very minor scuffing and some light crazing from contact with a fabric, which likely had solvent on it. These very rare metallic boxes were used to ship Belgian contract Colt 1903 Hammerless Pocket pistols overseas. Some of the overruns from that contract stayed in this country and were shipped to lucky dealers in the states making them very rare today. This pistol is serialized within the Belgian contract which ran from numbers 163269-196305. Of the 2372 pistols made for this contract, only about 810 remained in the states. While the serial number on the bottom of the box does not match this pistol precisely, this gun is still within the appropriate serial number range. The included factory letter shows shipment to JA Johnson of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in October 1914. Really an extremely rare box overall with a very nice example of the 1903 hammerless, within the correct serial number range. (36685-11) {C&R}

Rare Colt Model 1911A1 Government Model Transitional Civilian Pistol

Lot 179: Rare Colt Model 1911A1 Government Model Transitional Civilian Pistol

by Amoskeag Auction Co

August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $3,000 - $5,000

Description: serial #C221613, 45 ACP, 5" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces on this nice Colt pistol retain about 95-97% original blue, the loss being wear to the sharp edges and contact points with a light reassembly scratch and light leading edge wear on the bottom of the slide and dust cover. This is a civilian-numbered example, assembled at the very end of the Second World War utilizing a government contract slide among other parts. As such it was re-polished with a commercial grade polish blue which generally left the Rampant Colts very light, the civilian right-side roll marking leaving the slide with two Rampant Colts, one left and one right. As a military slide, this arm features a hardened front end (of slide) and has the firing pin bushing installed in the breech face. This very rare variation only lasted until the government contract slides were used up, it is surmised by some sources amounting to around 200 or so such arms. The checkered brown plastic grips rate excellent and the gun features a stamped trigger, checkered safety, grooved slide stop and retains the lanyard loop mainspring housing. A single unmarked two-tone magazine is included as well. A pretty example overall with its nice high-polished commercial grade blue. (36498-1) {C&R}

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $1,800 - $2,200

Description: serial #43987, 45 Colt, 5 1/2" barrel with an excellent bore. Overall, this 1911 made revolver retains about 90% of its original factory blue finish with light silvering of the high edges, the grip frame is flaking to brown, a turn ring is present on the cylinder and scattered scratches and freckling can be seen on the metal surfaces. The Nitre blue on the top of the hammer and trigger is starting to thin from handling but remains vivid in protected areas. The smooth walnut grips are correctly hand numbered to the frame and are in near excellent condition with light handling wear and dents. The revolver has crisp markings including sub-inspector Rinaldo A. Carr's initials, the acceptance mark of Major Walther G. Penfield, a Rampant Colt in a stylized C and all appropriate parts are correctly numbered to the gun. This gun features a dismounting hole in the ejector rod head and the lanyard swivel is still present. Model 1909's in this condition are rare as they were made in limited numbers with most going straight into service in the Philippine's. (86520-2446) {C&R} [Richard "Stretch" Kennedy Collection]

Colt Model 1855 Halfstock Percussion Sporting Rifle

Lot 200: Colt Model 1855 Halfstock Percussion Sporting Rifle

by Amoskeag Auction Co

August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $5,000 - $7,000

Description: serial #2902, 44 cal., 27" part octagon part round barrel with a bright near excellent bore which shows only some sparsely scattered very light oxidation or perhaps pinprick pits. The metal surfaces on this interesting sporting rifle retain about 75-80% antique nickel from the period of use. The flaked spots beneath are a plum brown patina, showing some minor oxidation, with the flash areas inside the frame showing light pitting. The cylinder shows perhaps a bit more loss and slightly more oxidation. The buttplate itself is a tarnished plum and pewter patina. The straight grip checkered walnut buttstock rates very good as lightly cleaned, retaining some minor dings and handling marks from the years, and also showing some nice grain figure emanating from the toeline. The forend rates good plus as-repaired and lightly refinished, the German silver nosecap showing some minor scuffing and handling marks. What appears to be the original cleaning rod with brass ball tip is present and there are two brass cleaning rod extensions in the trap beneath the butt. All of the visible numbers are matching on frame, barrel, cylinder, arbor, triggerguard and the buttstock beneath the buttplate is numbered to the frame. There is a Beach combination front sight in place (the vertical blade is missing), Colt adjustable rear sight in its dovetail (the tensioning screw is no longer present) and an appropriate Colt "445"-marked tang sight is present at the rear of the tang. The gun seems to need some minor mechanical attention as it will not always unlock and rotate without help; the barrel wedge is no longer present. Overall a very nice example in period nickel which, if not factory, certainly has been on the gun since the period of use; a very attractive rifle. Colt Model 1855 Artillery Revolving Carbine

Lot 206: Colt Model 1855 Artillery Revolving Carbine

by Amoskeag Auction Co

August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $3,000 - $5,000

Description: serial #1352, .56 caliber, 22 7/8" round barrel with octagonal breech and an oxidized bore. This rare Colt revolving carbine is equipped with sling stud in lower tang and has a bayonet lug on right side at muzzle. The forend has been shortened to the section between the loading lever and the barrel, therefore the barrel bands are missing. These carbines are supposed to have 24" barrels but we cannot see any signs of alteration at either end of this barrel. Metal surfaces of the carbine bear a dark brown patina with scattered old oxidation and light pitting. The markings on the topstrap and top tang are only partially legible. The walnut buttstock rates very good with a lot of original finish remaining and with scattered light handling marks. The rifle functions very crisply and features its original brass front sight and three leaf rear with single standing and two folding leaves. The rifle has matching, legible serial numbers on the triggerguard, frame and barrel. An unusual and interesting Colt revolving rifle. (16520-3568) {ANTIQUE} [Richard "Stretch" Kennedy Collection]

Estimated Price: $2,000 - $3,000

Description: serial #219357, 32-20 Win, 4 3/4" barrel with a bright about excellent bore which shows strong rifling but with some light frosting within the grooves. The barrel retains about 50% original blue, the left side worn fairly to pewter, the ejector rod housing similarly along its right side, with some minor handling marks and light oxidation. The cylinder retains about 50% original blue, the balance worn to pewter with numerous light rotational marks around its circumference. The frame retains about 50% original color case-hardening which is muting and smoky over most of its surface with the protected areas showing brighter colors; the areas of loss are a silvery case-hardened patina with the left recoil bolster and the gate showing some light oxidation. The grip frame and triggerguard retain perhaps 10% original blue, the balance a plum and pewter patina. The checkered hard rubber Rampant Colt grips rate very good with only slight wear to the points, they fit extremely well, neither are numbered. The gun seems to time well and lockup appropriately and while still exhibiting investment potential, could be enjoyed easily at the range. (36520-4187) [Richard "Stretch" Kennedy Collection] {C&R}

Description: serial #10260, 38 Colt, 6" barrel with an about excellent bore. The metal surfaces retain about 70-75% original blue, the cylinder showing loss predominantly around its radius with excellent blue in the flutes. The straps have toned to gray and there is holster and high edge wear present; the bow of the guard shows some extremely light pitting. The trigger shows some strong pale fire temper blue, primarily on its left side, while the hammer spine shows strong pale blue, the bright-polished sides showing some oxidation staining. The checkered walnut grips rate very good plus with only minor handling marks, they are numbered to the gun in pencil with its assembly number "223" (all the assembly numbers are matching). The gun times well and locks up appropriately and the lanyard loop is in place at the butt. The butt is properly "U.S./M.C." marked and the front left root of the triggerguard shows the "(star)W" acceptance marking as does the rear face of the cylinder. Description: serial #263439, 45 Colt, 4 3/4" barrel with a good bore with moderate pitting. This 1905 manufactured revolver retains about 30% of its original bluing on the barrel which is present mostly in the protected areas with a few streaks down the top of the barrel. The grip frame has about 10% showing in the protected areas and the cylinder is virtually devoid of any remaining finish. August 2, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Manchester, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $4,000 - $6,000

Description: serial #38558, 45 ACP, 5" barrel with an about very good bore which shows evident rifling with light frosting within the grooves, more prominent nearer the throat. The slide retains about 80 to perhaps 85% of what is likely arsenal-grade blue. There are some scratches in the metal surfaces which are blued-over however what appears to be original factory polish lines are present and all of the markings are crisp leading us to speculate that perhaps it is an arsenal finish. There is some minor pinprick pitting on the right radius of the slide, the left side shows some more moderate pitting somewhat sparsely scattered. The frame retains a similar amount of what appears to be original blue in every respect. The straps having toned to gray, also with some minor pitting present but it is very sparse and light. The upper half of the frame shows the correct front-to-rear polishing lines as comes from the factory, with the portion of the grip frame below the magazine catch showing the vertical polishing lines. The left-side inspector marking is still crisp as are the balance of the markings. The diamond-checkered walnut grips rate fair and good with a good deal of wear along the lower edges and flattening of the points, the right side grip showing a glued repair to a crack near its full length. Pistol features the correct flat mainspring housing with lanyard loop, the loop bent just slightly forward and the "H/P" proofed barrel, with the proofs in-line with the bore rather than perpendicular to it. A single 2-tone lanyard loop-equipped magazine is present as well, it rates about very good with light overall oxidation staining. This pistol was in the batch shipped to the New York Naval Shipyard in July 1913. Overall a very good example of a U.S. Navy-marked model 1911 pistol. (36687-1) {C&R}
