In Excellent Condition, Comes Unframed. Comes With A Signed Certificate Of Authenticity From The Vollard Estate. Ambroise Vollard Helped Launch The Career Of Paul Cezanne And Played An Important Part In The Production Of Cezanne's And Renoir's Lithographs And Etchings. The Story In 1919, Ambroise Vollard Published A Book On The Life And Work Of Renoir. "la Vie Et" Oeuvre De Pierre Auguste Renoir. At The Turn Of The Century Vollard Was The Most Renowned Art Dealer Of His Time. He Discovered Such Artists As Cézanne, Matisse, And Vlaminck Just To Name A Few. The Book Was Printed At A Limited Edition Of 1000; Copper Plates Used For The Book's Engravings Were Left Forgotten In The Basement Of A Country House Just Outside Paris, France. In cartouche at bottom right: "Lippia opp. licet Comitib. de Lippia subsit ... hec Hermannus Hammelmannus." Three armorials across top; "Dortmund" in baroque cartouche. Image: 13 1/2 x 17", matted and framed to an overall size of 23 x 27 1/4". Not examined out of frame. A few nicks to frame. The Civitates orbis terrarum was one of the major works of the Renaissance, used a combination of three types of representation : The pictorial panoramic view showing the arrangement of a town's buildings situated in their topographical surroundings; the town plan - a straightforward scaled map and the bird's-eye view which is more or less a combination of panorama and plan as seen from above.After 1618 Jan Jansson aquired the plates for Civitates orbis terrarum and published an eight-volume edition. The maps were re-issued a number of times in various forms and were published for the last time in 1750. Estimated Value $400 - 600.

Les Paul was a legendary American jazz, country and blues guitarist, songwriter, luthier and inventor. Among his many honors, Paul is one of a handful of artists with a permanent, stand-alone exhibit in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was one of the pioneers of the solid-body electric guitar, which made the sound of rock and roll possible and is also included in the National Inventors Hall of Fame. He is also credited with many recording innovations. He recorded with his wife, Mary Ford, in the 1950's, and enjoyed 94 years with us before his passing in 2009. This guitar is being auctioned to benefit The Lyceum of Terryville, CT.
