1910s ZEH & SCHERZER HP ROYAL VIENNA ROSES PLATE XW

Lot 205: 1910s ZEH & SCHERZER HP ROYAL VIENNA ROSES PLATE XW

by ACCURATE ESTATE AUCTIONS & APPRAISALS

February 8, 2015, 2:00 PM EST

Sheffield, AL, USA

Estimated Price: $95 - $115

Description: The AEAA proudly presents this stunning Bavarian Zeh & Scherzer porcelain full sized scalloped rim plate, hand painted by Bourgois of the Royal Vienna Decorating studio ca. 1910 to 1918. The artistry and depth of colors in the triple colored rose theme is simply outstanding, and our Zeh & Scherzer is in wonderful condition. The plate sits 9.75 x 9.75 x 1 inch deep, and weighs 1#. THe base stamp is that used by Zeh & Scherzer exclusively from 1880-1918 (with Bavaria added in 1891), and the Royal Vienna decoration mark is noted to have been used in the early 1900s, so both correspond perfectly. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. The Zeh, Scherzer & Co. was founded in 1880 at Rehau, Bavaria, Germany, producing a wide range of wares as well as fine decorated porcelain. The 1910s is considered the greatest period in company history, resulting in some of the most beautiful porcelain produced by Z & S, and giving the company a high-class reputation that was mentioned in the same breath with other famous German manufacturers such as Hutschenreuther and Rosenthal. Royal Munich was a professional decorating studio that did work for several high end German potters, including both C.M. Hutschenreuther, and Zeh, Scherzer & Co. during the latter 19th and early part of the 20th century. A later mark in gold leaf indicates the studio was still in existence into the 1930s, but no evidence that we can find, confirms that Royal Munich survived the Second World War. Research consulted: Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain 1710 to the Present / by Robert Rontgen; Directory of European Porcelain / by Ludwig Danckert
