STEVE HANKS - BABY BATH

Lot 37W: STEVE HANKS - BABY BATH

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014, 5:00 AM PST

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $135 - $180

Description: Steve Hanks - Baby Bath - Hand Signed - Limited Edition Print - Image Size: 12"w X 8"h. Limited Edition Of: 200 - Much Of Steve Hanks? Art Carries Subtle Symbolism With Children As The Focal Point. These Paintings Are Filled With His Hopes For The Young. After All, What Is More Pleasing Than A Baby Bath, Except Possibly Two Babies In The Bath And In This Particular Painting, They Are A Friend?s Fraternal Twins, A Boy And Girl. Curiosity And Fascination With Water Begins At The Very Beginning. These Two Are Splashing, Patting And Swirling Their Way To Figuring Out The Physical World And Each Other. Is One Leading The Way Or Is The Other Giving Orders? This Simple Summer Backyard Scene By Artist Steve Hanks Will Find A Home In Your Playroom, Nursery Or Bathroom.??about The Artist - Steve Hanks Although Teachers Often Cited His Artistic Ability, Steve Hanks? Main Interest While Growing Up Around San Francisco Was Sports. As A Young Teenager, Hanks Pursued Surfing And Tennis With Passion. He Eventually Tired Of A Steady Diet Of Competitive Tennis, But Continued To Surf, Finding A Spiritual Connection With The Ocean. ?surfing Had A Strong Influence On My Paintings,? He Says. ?the Ocean Often Appears In My Work, Because I Have Such Strong Feelings For It.? Although It Was Apparent Early On That He Had Talent, Hanks Refused To Do The Required Assignments In His High School Art Class And Earned A Grade Of C In The Class. ?to Prove I Was Good, I Did A One-man Show At The High School And Sold My First Painting To Another Art Teacher,? He Says. After High School Hanks Enrolled In Summer Session Commercial Art Courses At The Academy Of Art In San Francisco. ?the Only Way I Could Convince My Parents To Let Me Go Was To Say I Was Going Into Commercial Art,? He Says. ?i Didn?t Even Know What That Was!? He Did Well In His Commercial Art Classes, But It Was A Life Drawing Class That Captured His Interest. He Focused His Energy On The Study Of Anatomy And Figure Drawing And Transferred Into The California College Of Arts And Crafts In Oakland, California. He Graduated In The 1960s With A Bachelor Of Fine Arts Degree, And Then Moved Back To New Mexico In Search Of A Home Art Gallery. Initially, He Drew In Pencil And Painted In Oils. His Paintings Were Impressionistic While His Drawings Were More Realistic. Eventually, An Allergic Reaction To Oils Forced Him To Experiment With Watercolors. Using The Techniques Learned From Other Mediums, He Found He Could Create Watercolors As ?finished? As Oils. Deeply Affected By The Emotions, Shifting Attitudes And Music Of The 1960s, The Music Of 60s Icon Bob Dylan Often Accompanies Hanks As He Paints In His Studio Today. Steve Hanks? Paintings Are Much More Than Endearing Images Of Women And Children. Rather Than Conveying A Specific Message Through His Paintings, Hanks Prefers To Explore Memories And Emotions. ?all Art Is An Escape To Somewhere You Want To Be Or A Feeling You Want To Have," Hanks Says. "people See Different Things In My Paintings Because We All Have Different Backgrounds And Feelings.? Hanks Highly Collected Nudes Convey An Introspective Solitude That Prompts The Viewer To Think About His Or Her Own Life And Path. ?women Occupy A Special Niche In My Sensitivity. They Express More Storytelling Ability. There?s More Magic In Them,? He Says. Art Jurors Began Recognizing The Quality Of His Work In 1973. Steve Hanks Won The Arts For The Parks Marine Art Award Of Excellence In 1990 And 1994, And Has Been One Of The Arts For The Parks Top 100 Artists Since 1989. In 1991, Steve Hanks Received The National Watercolor Society Merit Award And The National Academy Of Western Art Awarded Him The Gold Medal In 1992. Since 1993, He Has Been One Of U.s. Art Magazine's Top Ten American Artists. When The Pacific Rim Show In Seattle, Wa Decided To Open The Show Up To A Wider Variety Of Art In 1999, They Selected Steve As Artist Of The Year. Steve Wasone Of Five Winners Selected To The U.s. Art Hall Of Fame 2000. He Was Named As One Of The Top 25 Selling Artists In The June, 2002 Issue Of Decor Magazine. The 7th Annual Andre Agassi Grand Slam For Children Chose Steve As Their Feature Artist In 2002.

Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries by Susan Blackwood

Lot 331S: Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries by Susan Blackwood

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014, 5:00 AM PST

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $450 - $570

Description: Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries by Susan Blackwood - Edition Size: 15 - Giclee on Canvas - Artist Proof Dimensions: 20 x 24 Release Date: 7-2010 ???.Pakistan 1975: in the midst of a clambering market place, unable to speak the language...I became aware of the importance of the common bonds that universally unite us all. The necessity to communicate these visions, feelings and emotions became paramount. Art became my language. I have chosen as my subject matter the simple, beautiful touching moments that are common both in nature and in the life of every person. These are the moments that often pass without notice and are the very ones that lend continuity to our lives and contribute to its richness and depth. These moments are the language I use when I paint. As in any meaningful conversation, the structure of the message must be clear. Thus, my color, brush strokes, textures and composition are carefully chosen, like essential words, to convey to the viewer the message that I wish to impart. My studies of classical art techniques began when I was a child and will always continue as I strive for better clarity and higher achievement. As words are carefully chosen for a poem, I, too, limit my brush strokes and detail to relay just enough to give the viewer my thoughts and involve their imagination. I purposely leave areas of my paintings in mystery for the viewer to become engaged in the story. I strive for each painting to be a poem rather than a novel. Some of my loose paintings are like haiku poems that are simple impressionistic vignettes. While some of my paintings are like sonnets, more spelled out in detail. Through the medium that I have chosen, I strive continually to develop a rich and colorful dialog in a language that will reach the heart. Susan won Best of Show 2010 at the American Women Artists National Exhibition held in Dallas.

Gold Dust by Karen Kelly

Lot 506S: Gold Dust by Karen Kelly

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014, 5:00 AM PST

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $250 - $320

Description: Gold Dust by Karen Kelly - Edition Size: Open - Giclee on Paper, Open Edition Signed Dimensions: 16 x 24 Release Date: 11-2010 ???.My life experience and pleasures are translated through my work as an artist and photographer. I have been compelled by the innate power of the horse and its elegant beauty since childhood, striving to capture the raw energy and motion as well as the unique emotional connection between not only man and beast, but man and earth.I am attracted to expressive and experimental styles of working which not only generate some surprises, but also afford a sense of personal freedom.Sometimes a viewer will look twice at an image and not immediately be certain what the subject is exactly, but will definitely experience a positive feeling. I?ve had several people respond to pieces in this collection in a pure emotional fashion without even acknowledging the subject matter.Shooting photos digitally has proven to be invaluable in capturing rare moments of raw, textured forcefulness. Continuing with a vision, I work digitally to bring out the drama in a partial, painterly manner hoping to invoke feelings of an almost musical sense of connectedness.20 years of experience also include a strong background in graphic design, traditional art, artdirection, and four years of teaching at the Art Institute in Denver. Karen Kelly?s creative photography is presented in the contemporary style of Somerset Décor offerings. Each image is giclée printed with a solid black border on fine art canvas and stretched around 2 inch deep and solid wood bars. These museum quality matte canvas offerings are coated with a water-based semi-gloss coating to provide protection from ultra violet rays, dust, light moisture, and handling. They are designed to hang or stand without framing.

Leaves of Gold by Tim Cox

Lot 795S: Leaves of Gold by Tim Cox

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014, 5:00 AM PST

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $300 - $380

Description: Leaves of Gold by Tim Cox - Edition Size: 950 - Print - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 16 x 24 Release Date: 3-2006 ???.As a young child, Tim Cox vowed he ?was going to be a cowboy artist? when he grew up, and he has lived that dream for 30 years. Growing up in a small farming and ranching community in Arizona was a natural environment that influenced Cox?s love for being surrounded by cattle and horses and the wide open spaces. While most of the artist?s time is spent painting, he rides and works on various ranches throughout the West and also raises cattle and trains horses he owns. Cox?s everyday experience with the cowboy life is reflected in the outstanding works that he creates. He combines color, value, perspective, accuracy, and design in his scenes of the daily life of the cowboy. As a perfectionist, his attention to detail and hands-on knowledge of the cattle and horses he so loves to paint have earned the artist legends of admirers and collectors who appreciate his accurate portrayals of western life. Viewers are brought up-close and personal with the animals and people who inhabit Cox?s world. The West comes alive in his paintings. Considered one of the great western artists of our time, Cox is one of today?s most successful painters in his genre. Through the years, many accolades have been bestowed on this very talented artist, and this year Cox was asked to join the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America; he participated in the 2008 exhibition. Cox has won numerous awards for his wonderful art. In 2008, Décor magazine featured Cox as one of the 14 Most Enduring and Successful Poster Artists. In 2007, his painting, ?Good Horses and Wide Open Spaces,? won the Express Ranches Great American Cowboy Award; at this same exhibit in 2004, ?Along Eagle Creek? won the award. In 2003, the artist was honored with one of the most prestigious awards in western art at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum exhibit. Cox?s painting, ?On to Better Pastures,? won the coveted Prix de West Purchase Award. In 2001, the artist was awarded the Will Rogers Western Artist of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists and Friends of Western Art. Cox is also a three-time winner of the Olaf Wieghorst Best of Show at The Mountain Oyster Club. Tim, a fourth generation Arizonan, and his wife, Suzie, enjoy the life that the artist paints on their ranch in New Mexico that they call home. Surrounded by their cattle and horses, they truly live the western life that most of us can only dream about.

Gold Dust by Karen Kelly

Lot 850S: Gold Dust by Karen Kelly

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014, 5:00 AM PST

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $250 - $320

Description: Gold Dust by Karen Kelly - Edition Size: Open - Giclee on Canvas, Open Edition Signed Dimensions: 16 x 24 Release Date: 11-2010 ???.My life experience and pleasures are translated through my work as an artist and photographer.
