Description: INTERESTING LOT OF ITEMS PERTAINING TO MARK TWAIN Consists of a rare photo titled "Mark Twain at his old home, Hannibal" depicting Twain in a white suit standing in front of a house. Purportedly this was taken in 1902 during Twain's last visit to his boyhood home in Hannibal, Missouri. Silver gelatin print mounted on board, print 4.75" x 4". Unframed. Lot also includes a handwritten letter by Twain's middle daughter, Clara Langhorne Clemens Samossoud, a photograph of Laura Hawkins Frazer serving tea in Mark Twain's home in honor of his birthday, and a newspaper article "Mark Twain's Mother As 'Becky Thatcher' Knew Her". Frazer was a childhood friend of Samuel Clemens and was the real-life inspiration for Tom Sawyer's love interest Becky Thatcher. The newspaper article is based on an interview with Frazer in which she describes her relationship with Twain and his mother. Together with three books: 1) Mark Twain A Biography: Volume 1 by Albert Bigelow Paine (Harper & Brothers, N.Y., 1912). 2-3) Volumes III and IV of The National Portrait Gallery of Distinguished Americans. Inscribed on fly "Wm. B. Hawkins from Mother Dec. 25, 1885" as well as "Elijah Hawkins"; they are believed to be relatives of Laura Hawkins Frazer.
