American Pioneer Spirit by Bruce Cheever

Lot 446S: American Pioneer Spirit by Bruce Cheever

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014, 5:00 AM PST

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $600 - $750

Description: American Pioneer Spirit by Bruce Cheever - Edition Size: 95 - Giclee on Canvas - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 20 x 30 Release Date: 9-2011 ???.Bruce Cheever remembers his interest in art started as a child. His natural, artistic talent led him to enjoy success as an illustrator for many years, eventually leading to a career as a fine artist. During his years spent in illustration, he gained much knowledge, along with an ability of observation and discipline in the arts. He also credits his education at BrighamYoung University as a positive influence in his success. In this formative period of his career, he also discovered an affinity for tonalism and luminism. The artist?s atmospheric and bucolic paintings are suggestive of Renaissance landscapes. This passion for the landscape is driven by the never-ending search for beauty. Cheever states, "Art is a visual language and, as an artist, my hope is that my work is not just paint on a board, but rather a combination of inspiration, emotion, and skill to inspire the human soul. As primarily a landscape painter, I strive to evoke emotion in the spirit of those who view my work and to give them a sense of place within the landscape. My hope is that I can touch the chords of nostalgia and beauty that lie within each of us, and further hope to inspire others to pay attention to the simple beauties of life.? Today, Cheever?s studio paintings take shape from the inspiration he gathers from his travels. Whether painting a rural scene in the American West or a pastoral European landscape, his art is emerging with a style of its own. The artist adds, "My objective is to inspire others through art and to participate in reminding mankind that the world can be good if we consciously take the time to appreciate what is around us. I am inspired by the ordinary and moved by the extraordinary and feel that both are equal in beauty, if careful attention is given to both. I thank God for His gifts to me and the ability to share them with others. I simply believe that we are all given glimpses of divinity to sooth our souls, and that each of us is given gifts to share with one another.? Cheever is represented by Trailside Galleries in their Jackson and Scottsdale locations. He exhibits at many invitational shows, including showcases with Trailside Galleries, and he also participates in group shows with Settlers West Gallery in Tucson, Arizona, and Howard Mandville Gallery in Kirkland, Washington. He has exhibited at the prestigious Masters of the American West Show at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles, at the Jackson Hole Art Auction, and at the Arts for the Parks, where he is one of the top 100 winners. His work has been featured in Art of the West, Southwest Art, Western Art Collector, and American Art Collector magazines.

Judy Received A Bachelor Of Science Degree In Commercial Art From Pacific Union College In Northern California, Then Spent The Next 17 Years As A Commercial Artist, Illustrator And Art Director. In 1988, Influenced By Her Love Of Nature And Animals, Judy Devoted Her Time To Wildlife Art. Her Primary Focus In Each Of Her Paintings Is The Animal, With The Horse As A Recurring Subject. Her Unique Approach To Her Work Is Through The Use Of Scratch Board--a Technique That Can Render Magnificent Detail But One Requiring Infinite Patience. Scratch Board, An Old, But Little Used Medium, Consists Of A Smooth, Thin Surface Of Hardened China Clay Applied To A Board. The Subject Is Then Painted Solidly With Black India Ink To Create A Silhouette. Now The Exacting Work Begins, Engraving The Image Into The Surface Of The Artwork. While Many Artists Use Steel Nibs Or Engraving Tools, Judy Prefers To Work With X-acto Blades, Changing Them Ever Few Minutes To Produce As Fine A Line As Possible. Once The Subject Has Been Totally Scratched, It Is A Finished Black And White Illustration, Ready For The Artist To Add Color. The Methods Of Adding Color Are Diverse. Judy Prefers A Combination Of Airbrush, Gouache Or Acrylics For Finishing, With Frequent Rescratching For Detail. Scratch Board Is A Demanding Medium, One That Judy Has Used Masterfully In Developing Her Unique Approach To Wildlife Art.

by Seized Assets Auctioneers

April 21, 2014, 7:30 AM PST

Westlake Villiage, CA, USA

Estimated Price: $700 - $800

Description: 18th Century Antique American Silver & Baleen Toddy Ladle ED1295. Excellent Condition! KE805UV. Presented is an old silver and baleen sauce or small toddy ladle made during the 1740s-1800. The ladle has a classical, twisted baleen handle with an elegant silver cap at the end. The bowl is round with a flared lip. The silver parts are guaranteed to be at least .900 silver or coin purity silver. This was certainly made in England or the United States. Although some English examples were unmarked, this is quite unusual. The lack of any hallmarks indicates that this piece is likely American. This ladle is in good overall condition for its age. There is a small crease/scratch in the top of the ladle lip near where the handle is attached. There are no flaws, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals and no repairs. The inside silver ladle is stamped AMD as well as the cap on the whale bone/baleen twisted handle. The ladle measures 8 inches long.
