by Auctionata

Berlin, Germany

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Oil on board England, 1950 Richard Ernst Eurich (1903-1992) - English painter Signed and dated 'R. Eurich' lower left Inscribed by another hand on verso, 'Sea View', 'Richard Eurich ARA' and 'Dibden Purlieu Appletreewick Southhampton' Overall dimensions, with frame: 56.5 x 71 cm Glazed wooden frame Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Great Britain Richard Eurich is known for his seascapes and narrative paintings. Similar works by the artist sell for up to EUR 30,000 on the international market The present well-composed depiction of a house by the sea is the work of the English painter Richard Eurich, and dates from 1950. It is possibly a country house in Dibden Purlieu in Hampshire, where Richard Eurich lived for some time. The place is also referred to by the inscription 'Dibden Purlieu Appletreewick' on the reverse. The viewer's gaze leads from the gate across a garden path through the open house to the sea, on which some sailboats are visible. The homeowner and his dog, appear at the open door as if they were waiting for a visitor. The garden to the left and right of the path offers a lush and colorful array of flowers. A sign at the garden gate indicates that apples are for sale. This beautiful spring piece stirs the longing for a relaxing country life in harmony with nature. The painting is signed lower left and dated, 'R. Eurich', as well as inscribed in the image 'Sea View', 'Apples for Sale' and 'Beware of the Dog'. At the back are some English labels, a cutting from a newspaper about Richard Eurich, and the words 'Sea View', 'Richard Eurich ARA' and 'Dibden Purlieu Appletreewick Southhampton'. The painting is in good condition with slight framing marks and a few small areas of retouching, especially at the upper edge. The wooden frame shows slight wear. The overall dimensions, framed, are 56.5 x 71 cm, the board measures 43 x 57.5 cm.Richard Eurich (1903-1992) The English painter Richard Eurich studied at Bradford School for Arts at Crafts in 1922, and continued his studies until 1926 at the London Slade School of Art under Professor Henry Tonks. As a student, he met the art patron Sir Edward Marsh, who organized his first exhibition in 1929 with pencil drawings at the Goupil Gallery. In 1933, Marsh organized another exhibition at London's Redfern Gallery, with which Eurich continued to work for another 25 years. Between 1941 and 1945, Eurich worked as an official war artist. From 1949 to 1968, he taught at the Camberwell School of Art and from 1969 to 1971 at the Royal Academy Schools. Due to the legal obligation for the resale royalty in the art market the following applies: As a result of its membership in the AV Kunst, Auctionata charges additionally to the hammer price the contribution to the AV Kunst of currently 2.1% of the revenues from the sale of fine arts and photographs pro rata towards the buyer.
