THE GREAT ABBOT TSONGKHAPA

by Galerie Zacke Vienna

May 14, 2015, 2:00 PM CET

Vienna, Austria

Estimated Price: €1,400 - €2,800

Description: Fire-gilded copper-repousse. Tibet, 19th cent. A high quality depiction with lustrous gilding! Quite certainty the great reformer Tsongkhapa who lived until 1419, although his characteristic attributes are missing. Nevertheless, the head-dress and hand position with the dharmacakra mudra are very typical for him. The beautiful and detailed position of each finger showcases fine craftsmanship. The gesture of teaching, or „turning the wheel of dharma" is indicative of him, as he did not only advocate monastic discipline, but rather the teachings of Buddha himself - until the end of his life. HEIGHT 19,8 CM From a Hungarian collection
