Estimated Price: $30 - $60

Description: Age: C. 1890Size: 7.5x3.5"Weight: 0.5 ozMaker: UnknownFrame/Mat Size: 8.25x4"Frame Description: Dark brown with slight edge scuffingProvenance: Connecticut EstatesDescription: An Indian War officer stands at attention, ankles together with this hands crossed over the hilt of his down-pointing sword. His jacket is dark, with nine buttons up the front and a square belt buckle high on his waist. Two light striped frame his shoulders, two more stripes running down the outer side of his pants. His helmet is rounded, with a spear point emerging from the top - attached to which are white, cottony strands. His moustache is waxed into a handlebar, but otherwise clean shaven. He stands in front of a wall, about five feet high, with a gate post to the viewer's left.Condition: While in great condition, time has lead to light spotting on the photograph, and a small tear in the bottom right corner.History: The Indian Wars spanned from the 1600s to as late as the early 1920s, with conflicts arising as colonists expanded westward, pushing the Native American population out of their homelands in the name of Manifest Destiny. Throughout the majority of American history, it was a military venture to deal with violent conflict with the Native tribes, but the last medal recognizing action in the line of duty was given in 1898, with no further official recognition given in the name of the "Indian Wars."
