Original signiert von Meyer Cohn, einem der grössten Financiers der Gründerzeit. Die Liste seiner Beteiligungen ist lang: Berliner Molkerei, Gumbinnen Brauerei, Tiergarten-Bauverein, Reichsbank (Mitglied im Zentralausschuß der Anteilseigner). Meyer Cohn war in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jh. aus einfachen Verhältnissen in Posen nach Berlin gekommen und hatte hier mit Unterstützung märkischer Adliger eine Privatbank gegründet. Er erwarb den bei Bankiers, Fabrikanten und Kaufleuten sehr begehrten Titel eines "Commerzienraths" und hinterließ ein beträchtliches Vermögen. Seine zwei Söhne Heinrich und Alexander (bedeutender Autographensammler, seine herausragende Sammlung wurde von Stargardt versteigert) übernahmen die Leitung der Bank und führten sie bis zu ihrem Tod 1905 bzw. 1904. Der Sitz der Meyer Cohn'schen Bank befand sich viele Jahre Unter den Linden 11. Die Bank wurde 1906 (nach anderen Quellen 1908) von der Diskonto-Gesellschaft erworben, die später in die Deutsche Bank eingegliedert wurde. Die Meyer Cohn-Signatur ist extrem selten. Nur ganz wenige Actien-Bauverein Passage-Aktien mit seiner Unterschrift wurden gefunden. Die Signatur ist sehr schön, tadellos. Kleinere Einrisse hinterklebt. VF- #5352. (24) Kaiser Wilhelm I. persönlich eröffnete die 1870-73 errichtete "Kaisergalerie" zwischen dem Pracht-Boulevard Unter den Linden und der Friedrichstraße an seinem Geburtstag am 22.3.1873 (der Kaiser war auch Mitglied des ersten Aufsichtsrates). Erbaut im Renaissance-Stil mit Türmchen und Giebeln, 127 m lang, 8 m breit und 15 m hoch, war die Kaisergalerie "die" Besucher-Attraktion in Berlin. Wirtschaftlich war ihr zunächst nur mäßiger Erfolg beschieden: Imense Leerstände der Läden in der Passage und glücklose Ausflüge ins Hotel- und Restaurant-Geschäft brachten sie mehrfach an den Rand des Ruins - trotzdem sogar das Panoptikum und das Wachsfiguren-Kabinett der Brüder Castan als Mieter gewonnen werden konnten. Da die Gesellschaft bei Kriegsende einen schwedischen Großaktionär hatte (Svenska Tändsticks AB), überlebte sie sogar mehr oder weniger unbeschadet die DDR-Zeit und wurde 1991 wieder reaktiviert. Die meisten der alten Aktien wurden in DM-Aktien umgetauscht. Bis heute wird um die Rückgabe der wertvollen Grundstücke an der Friedrichstraße gestritten: Heute steht dort das Grand Hotel, einst das Flaggschiff der DDR-Interhotel-Gruppe, heute das "Westin Grand".

Description: PAL, Jean de PALÉOLOGUE dit (1860 - 1942) CLEVELAND CYCLES Imprimeur Caby & Chardin - 17, Passage Daudin Paris. État B- : restauration à l'angle inférieur gauche, en marge et fentes dans l'image 158 x 111 cm. Né en Roumanie, Pal y grandit et fait son service militaire avant d'entreprendre des études d'Art à l'école Gravesend de Londres. Là-bas, il travaille comme illustrateur pour différentes revues et comme affichiste. En 1893, il s'installe à Paris et continue son métier, créant de nombreuses images pour la publicité et le théatre. Il partira finalement aux États-Unis en 1900, où il rencontrera un succès notable. Reconnaissable entre toutes, ses affiches donnent à voir un type de femme sensuelle, à l'œil fardé, parée de bijoux et souvent très dénudée, proche des canons des peintres "pompier".
