The photo was presumably taken in California and includes the dunes of a beach at the lower end. The highly appealing aesthetic of the picture is obtained through the presentation in black and white. The Modern Fine Art print verso reveals the estate stamp (signed by the executor Chuck Murphy) and the OneWest Publishing stamp; both stamps are numbered '130/200' and dated '5-16-2006' by hand. The photography is in mint condition. The image size is 38.2 x 38.2 cm and the size of the sheet is 40.7 x 40.5 cm. The work is delivered with a certificate of authenticity signed by Chuck Murphy. André de Dienes (1913-1985)André de Dienes began with his career as a photo journalist for the Associated Press in New York. In the following years he gradually turned towards fashion photography and worked for magazines such as Vogue and Life. In 1945, Dienes met Marilyn Monroe and a close cooperation began, which led to her first series of world famous portraits. Beside Marilyn Monroe, de Dienes also portrayed celebrities such as Marlon Brando, Elizabeth Taylor, Henry Fonda, Shirley Temple and Fred Astaire. Additionally, he became famous for his nude photographs, which were published in no less than 24 volumes in the United States. Lot 16: Mark Brazier-Jones, 'Pegasus Chair', England, 1986

by Auctionata

October 22, 2014, 6:00 PM CET

Berlin, Germany

Estimated Price: €4,800 - €6,000

Description: Bronze, cast, upholstered with velvet England, 1986 Mark Brazier-Jones (b. 1956) - New Zealand designer Signed, dated and numbered '... Brazier Jones in 1986 .../100' on the back Three-legged stool, the front with hooves and backrest in wing shape Height: 83 cm, 45 x 50 cm Very good condition Extravagant design from the 1980s with reference to Greek mythology This unusual chair was designed by the New Zealand designer Mark Brazier-Jones. It was created in 1986 and is entitled 'Pegasus-Chair'. The name refers to the winged horse of Greek mythology, a reference that becomes evident in the chair's backrest shaped as wings and the hoofed forelegs. Brazier-Jones's furniture often shows animal characteristics. Moreover he also drew inspiration from the opulence of the French Empire style, which is reflected in the shape of the legs and the velvet seat cover. His designs are typical of 1980s, when a taste for a certain opulent extravagance prevailed. The chair is 83 cm high and measures 45 x 50 cm. It is in very good condition with minimal signs of age and wear. Mark Brazier-Jones (b. 1956) Mark Brazier-Jones was born in New Zealand and came to London in the 1960s. Here he attended art college and experimented in different media. From the 80s onwards he worked primarily with metal. He explored reclamation yards looking for scrap metal, which he then composed into new objects in his studio and became a founding member of the movement 'Creative Salvage Group'. Today Brazier-Jones lives and works in Hertfordshire, England. For over three decades he has realized numerous projects for film sets and private commissions for celebrities. His works are held in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris and the Museum of Art and Design, New York. Fornasetti, Small Side Table 'Tema e Variazioni', 1980s

Lot 6: Fornasetti, Small Side Table 'Tema e Variazioni', 1980s

by Auctionata

October 22, 2014, 6:00 PM CET

Berlin, Germany

Estimated Price: €2,080 - €2,600

Description: Wood with silkscreen print, iron tube, painted black, brass Italy, 1980s Design: Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) - Italian painter, sculptor, craftsman and decorator With manufacturer's label 'Fornasetti Milano' Height: 54 cm Diameter: 36 cm Very good condition Side table with the famous face of Lina Cavalieri as decoration on the table top from the series 'Tema e variazioni' Object is regular taxed. 19% VAT is added to the purchase price for deliveries within the EU.The creations by Piero Fornasetti are fascinating up until today. His large number of subjects, with which he decorates nearly every piece into a distinctive object, ranges from architectural motifs over trompe-l'oeil painting to his popular solar images. However, his most famous subject is the portrait of opera singer Lina Cavalieri, which he chose because of her classic, austere beauty. It appears in countless variations and is therefore called 'Tema e variazioni'. The small tripod table offerd here illustrates this image as silkscreen printed on the wooden tabletop. The table bears the manufacturer's label 'Fornasetti Milano'. It is in very good condition with minimal signs of wear. Its height measures 54 cm, the diameter 36 cm. Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) Piero Fornasetti was born in Milan in 1913. A scholarship enabled him to study at the Accademia di Belle Arti in 1930, where he studied painting. After two years he left the academy and worked as a freelance artist. In 1933 he participated in the Milan Triennale. An encounter with the designer Gio Ponti led him into the direction of interior design and he soon began to decorate the surfaces of furniture with architectural images or trompe l'oeil painting. In 1970 he opened his own shop in Milan, where his designs can be purchased until today. (afa/cru) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.

Description: Wood, cane, clay, plant fiber and spider websVanuatu people, South Maleluka, circa 1950Sculpture displayed in the men's house to ensure the well- being of the communityCane frame with over-modeling for the bodyPainted with black, white and red pigmentsMounted on modern baseHeight: approx. 142 cmGood conditionProvenance: Private collection, Belgium Large, expressive ancestor figure with decorative painting This ancestral figure was created around 1950 by the Vanuatu people, indigenous to the South Pacific. The sculpture has a cane frame with vegetable fiber paste over-modeling for the body and is decorated with three-color pigment painting. The head is possibly an over-modeled skull of an ancestor, the hair is of spider-web. Many cultures of the South Pacific see the head as the seat of the human soul. Thus some tribes keep the head of their lost ones as a relic in the form of these so-called rambaramp figures. The life-sized figures were only created for men of a high social rank and displayed in the men's house. Painted ornaments and patterns are intended to show the identity and status of the deceased. It was believed that the spirits of the dead could live on in these figures. The figure is mounted on a modern base. The figure is in good condition. The body shows cracks and minor losses due to the nature of the material. The figure measures approx. 142 cm in height. In 1863 the population was around 300. At its height the town (Macetown) boasted a school, a church and two hotels. By 1865 most of the alluvial gold had been extracted and miners left for the gold fields of the West Coast. The company disappeared from records by the mid-1860s.
