Servant of All by James Seward

Lot 576S: Servant of All by James Seward

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014, 5:00 AM PST

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $1,500 - $1,880

Description: Servant of All by James Seward - Edition Size: 95 - Giclee on Canvas - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 24 x 48 Release Date: 8-2010 ???.James Seward was born in Alabama, and raised in Tennessee. He spent summers with his grandparents in the wild back-country of Alabama. When he was six, his grandfather bought him his first set of oil paints, and as a young child he often painted his grandparents by lamp-light, to their great astonishment. "From the time I was five years old, I was continually painting and drawing in that great environment,? the artist remembers with fondness. After military service, Seward spent a year studying art under Howard Boyd Johnson at Watkins Institute in Nashville. In 1947, he enrolled at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he met his wife, Lyn. A year later they were married. After graduation, Seward apprenticed at two Chicago commercial art studios, but in 1954, the family moved to the midwest. After a year with an agency, he joined Union Gospel Press for the next six years. Since that time, Seward has been self-employed as a freelance illustrator and painter and has created works for most of the large protestant denominations including Standard Publishing in Cincinnati, the Methodists and Baptists in Nashville, the Concordia Lutherans in St. Louis, and the Nazarene Publishing House. Although the artist had attended church since childhood, after leaving for the Navy in 1944, he dropped his church attendance. In 1953, two former friends with whom he?d lost contact felt moved to pray for his salvation. And in 1954 when he and his family attended church with a neighbor, Jim and Lyn gave their lives to Christ.. Currently Jim is an ordained minister for the "Christ-Life Fellowship? headquartered in Dallas, Texas. He has spoken around the United States as well as in South Africa. He writes articles, makes teaching tapes and works on religious books. His religious paintings express his passion for Christ. Seward has completed over 22 illustrations for a Doubleday book entitled, Ancient Greece. In 1987 and 1989, he was one of 100 artists from around the country picked for the National Arts in the Parks Competition. James E. Seward has been commissioned for portraitures by many organizations. His paintings grace the walls of such companies as the General Motors Corporation, the Wells Fargo Bank, The McDonald Investment Company, and the Will Rogers Museum in Oklahoma. "I try not only to inform, but to move and delight with my artwork?I want the viewer to have an emotional reaction to each painting. That?s what makes it a work of art rather than just an illustration.? - James E. Seward James Seward passed away in December 2011

Freedom by Kimerlee Curyl

Lot 587S: Freedom by Kimerlee Curyl

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014, 5:00 AM PST

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $180 - $225

Description: Freedom by Kimerlee Curyl - Edition Size: Open - Canvas - Open Edition Dimensions: 4.5 x 17.5 Release Date: 3-2008 ???.Loving everything "horse" for as long as she can remember, Kimerlee's life, thus far, makes perfect sense. The Hollywood dream moved her West from Minnesota, but it was the heart of a horse that changed everything. Working on both sides of the camera, Kimerlee has the natural ability of capturing emotion and delivering dramatic and evocative imagery. Her first solo show debuted in Los Angeles with record-breaking gallery sales. Her work appears in many prestigious galleries and is held in private, international collections. Kimerlee's work also has been in numerous advertising campaigns, product brandings, and magazine covers. Kimerlee works with all breeds and travels extensively to photograph some of the most beautiful horses in the world. She loves them all passionately, but a corner of her heart beats faster when it comes to America's legendary wild horses. She has spent time on the rangelands, immersed into enormous herds of wild horses, experiencing and becoming a part of their world, telling their story through expressive moments captured in time. Dedicated to the cause of the wild horses for many years, Kimerlee hopes to inspire others to appreciate the beauty of these creatures and also to take an interest in helping preserve their historic place. As a voice for these living legends, she continues to educate through art and awareness. She donates her time and efforts to Return to Freedom, American Wild Horse Sanctuary, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting over 200 wild horses and burros. Kimerlee left Los Angeles in 2009 and moved with her beautiful mare, Sequoia, to the Santa Ynez Valley surrounded and inspired daily by what she loves most, horses. The artist says, "We must be the voice for these living legends....they are our heritage. We built this great nation by holding onto their manes and riding the spirit of their hearts. To lose them would be a tragically-irresponsible disrespect to our past, present, and future."

Winter Sanctuary by Matthew Hillier

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014, 5:00 AM PST

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $2,000 - $2,500

Description: Winter Sanctuary by Matthew Hillier - Edition Size: 15 - Giclee on Canvas - Artist Proof Dimensions: 24 x 36 Release Date: 5-2004 ???.Matthew Hillier?s extraordinary wildlife paintings offer the viewer a unique vantage point. His paintings express more than the physical characteristics of a species; they reveal the artist?s passion for his subjects. Although he now resides in the U. S., Hillier was born in Buckinghamshire, England, in 1958 and has spent most of his life on the south coast of England. Drawing and painting animals is something he has loved to do since he was a child. Hillier?s father was a museum designer who taught his son the rudiments of painting with watercolor, a medium Hillier used during his years as an illustrator, along with gouache. He is now best known for his acrylic paintings, although he loves the challenge of oils. Traveling widely in search of subjects to study and paint, Hillier has visited Africa many times, and he has traveled to India, other parts of Europe and throughout Southeast Asia. He loves the big cats and rhinos and finds himself drawn to water birds. Since moving to the United States, he has begun painting North American subjects in addition to the dramatic African and bird subjects for which he is renowned. Hillier studied at Dyfed College of Art in Carmarthen, West Wales, graduating with distinction. Three of his paintings were accepted by the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition before his 18th birthday, and he has exhibited regularly at the Pastel Society. He is a member of the Society of Wildlife Artists, the Society of Animal Artists, The Royal Institute and the Miniature Society, as well as the Paris Salon, the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Biarritz Salon. In addition, he has participated in the Christie?s Wildlife Auction. He has been selected to exhibit at the prodigious ?Birds in Art? exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson for many years. He has had one-man exhibitions throughout Great Britain and has illustrated many books and magazines. In 1995, he won the World Wildlife Fund Fine Art Award. In 1998, he received The People?s Choice Award from The Florida Wildlife and Western Art Expo. He was also a Featured Artist at that show in 1999. In 1997, 1998, and 2001, Hillier received The Society of Animal Artists? Award of Excellence. He received the People?s Choice Award at the Plainsmen Gallery/Raymond James Financial in 2002 and 2004. IN 2003, he won the ?Artists for the Next Century? Publishers Award at the Bennington Art Museum in Vermont. He has appeared on the cover of Wildlife Art Magazine in 2000 and 2003, In 2002, one of his paintings was chosen by US Art as one of their top 50 paintings of that year. For many years he was a regular contributor to the Guinness Book of Records illustrating the wildlife section. Hillier spent two years illustrating The Rhinoceros, a monograph published by Basilisk Press. This entailed traveling to Africa and Sumatra to study rhinos, after which he produced 20 large plates of portraits and paintings of five species of rhino, in addition to behavioral sketches. ?Rhinos are,? he says, ?wonderful subjects to paint.? Teaching is becoming an important part of Hillier?s life now. He has taught ?Life Painting? for several years at Montgomery College in Maryland and taught a Wildlife Art Workshop at the Beartooth School of Art in Montana. He lives in Maryland with his wife, (wildlife artist) Julia Rogers, two stepchildren and their young son, not to mention two ?ghastly? Chihuahuas and a fat cat.

Description: Mateo by Kimerlee Curyl - Edition Size: 250 - Giclee on Canvas - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 24 x 36 Release Date: 4-2010 ???.Loving everything "horse" for as long as she can remember, Kimerlee's life, thus far, makes perfect sense.
