GARY BENFIELD - FLORA

Lot 1693C: GARY BENFIELD - FLORA

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $360 - $540

Description: Artist: Gary Benfield. Title: Flora. Medium: Giclee on Paper. Image Size: 20 x 12. Limited Edition Size: 195. __________Artist Biography: Gary Benfield?s keen eye for natural details joins with his vivid imagination in his work. His spontaneity is apparent in the dramatic pencil contours, casual brushstrokes and translucent colors, yet the forms are always classical and graceful and the compositions meticulous. The figures dissolve in the background and move across the canvas. Benfield paints rapidly and discards most of his work, keeping only the paintings that at the moment of conception capture the fluidity and grace of motion. Benfield has always been captivated by human form, and it dominates his work. He paints in images, translucent and dreamlike, always emotional and intimate. His work is a dance of the imagination, uniting precision and artistic skill to depict his 'lifelike fairytales'. He creates a unique juxtaposition of chaos and classical proportions, collision of color and line, realism and fantasy. For Benfield the world is a continuous sequence of contained causality. Objects and figures intertwine in his mind, they dance, they fuse, and one adopts the color and life of the other. We are drawn in to an intimate world of his imagery, where sensuality and delight in life's form are combined in flight of frolic and fantasy. His romanticism is fearless. Born in Birmingham, England, in 1965 Benfield studied art at Sturbridge College of art and continued later at the prestigious Wrexham College of Art. After leaving the academic world, he set up a studio near London and embarked upon one of his most productive periods. During this time, he developed a distinctive yet natural style, and after only several years, his work became well known and widely collected throughout Europe.

Autumn's Veil by Robert Peters

Lot 1698S: Autumn's Veil by Robert Peters

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $790 - $990

Description: Autumn's Veil by Robert Peters - Edition Size: 15 - Giclee on Canvas - Artist Proof Dimensions: 20 x 30 Release Date: 5-2012 ???.Robert Peters has spent his life living in and absorbing all that the West and its magnificent landscapes offer. The artist states, ?My work is grounded in my earliest personal impressions.? As a child, Peters grew up in Arizona, and he remembers fondly family trips that allowed him to hike, fish, and hunt in the wild and wondrous landscapes of southwestern Colorado. In these early years, the artist was just happy to enjoy the experience of being outdoors and eager to take in all that nature offers. ?I often seek out the story in a landscape,? says Peters. He notes that ?the repetition of shape in ridges? and ?jagged rocks in juxtaposition with soft snow? are just a couple aspects that interest him in mentally forming a composition that will draw and move the viewer?s eye to take in all of nature captured on his canvas. The artist also notes that ?a judicious use of detail? makes up the light and delicate aspects of his works. The excellent ability to orchestrate color and values gives Peters? art depth and emotion. ?That?s where their (my paintings) atmosphere comes from,? adds the artist. ?In the studio, I?m composing, rearranging, and reliving.? Trips to art museums and art classes in college laid the foundation for Peters? interest in what was to become his passion and career. In college, he began painting seriously; a professor, who was also a successful commercial illustrator, acknowledged and fostered Peters? talent and potential. With a desire for a career in commercial art, the artist was fortunate to have a mentor who educated him in the various components of the business. The young Peters soon began making a living working with well known advertising and publishing companies in New York without having to live there. Peters thrived in the business and his work was in demand. During this time, he joined the Society of Illustrators. During his successful commercial art career, Peters and his wife moved to Colorado and lived on a ranch where they bred and raised show horses. This rewarding life brought new purpose to his talent as an artist. He began painting the horses they loved and the western landscape. Peters felt compelled to paint full-time and quit commercial art, and his fine art career as a landscape painter was brought to life. Now settled back in Arizona with his family, Peters paints in a spacious studio next to his home. Majestic mountain vistas and his own horse pasture contribute to his many inspired moments at the easel. The artist also ventures into the natural world he so loved as a boy to view, contemplate, make notes, and sketch an image that he will take back to his studio where it will come alive on his canvas. Adds Peters, ?If something is in one of my paintings, I?ve been there and experienced it.?

A quiet man of immense talent, his paintings came from his heart as much as from his brush. Breath-taking in his detailed and realistic approach, his images make time stand still?creating memories that offer the viewer a glimpse into a rich past that is relived through the artist?s paintings. Wygant?s growing reputation resulted in the University of Houston offering him a teaching position, where he inspired multitudes of students for 16 years. The artist also worked with the internationally-famous Houston Livestock Show in judging students? art and awarding scholarships?a way to give something back to the community. Bob Wygant?s magical use of acrylics earned him a reputation as a master of this medium. GARY BENFIELD - MIDNIGHT STAR

Lot 1861C: GARY BENFIELD - MIDNIGHT STAR

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $460 - $690

Description: Artist: Gary Benfield. Title: Midnight Star. Medium: Giclee on Paper. Image Size: 16.25 x 18. Limited Edition Size: 350.

Estimated Price: $390 - $490

Description: October Mist by Tim Cox - Edition Size: 1500 - Print - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 20 x 30 Release Date: 10-2008 ???.As a young child, Tim Cox vowed he ?was going to be a cowboy artist? when he grew up, and he has lived that dream for 30 years. Growing up in a small farming and ranching community in Arizona was a natural environment that influenced Cox?s love for being surrounded by cattle and horses and the wide open spaces. While most of the artist?s time is spent painting, he rides and works on various ranches throughout the West and also raises cattle and trains horses he owns. Cox?s everyday experience with the cowboy life is reflected in the outstanding works that he creates. He combines color, value, perspective, accuracy, and design in his scenes of the daily life of the cowboy. As a perfectionist, his attention to detail and hands-on knowledge of the cattle and horses he so loves to paint have earned the artist legends of admirers and collectors who appreciate his accurate portrayals of western life. Viewers are brought up-close and personal with the animals and people who inhabit Cox?s world. The West comes alive in his paintings. Considered one of the great western artists of our time, Cox is one of today?s most successful painters in his genre. Through the years, many accolades have been bestowed on this very talented artist, and this year Cox was asked to join the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America; he participated in the 2008 exhibition. Cox has won numerous awards for his wonderful art. In 2008, Décor magazine featured Cox as one of the 14 Most Enduring and Successful Poster Artists. In 2007, his painting, ?Good Horses and Wide Open Spaces,? won the Express Ranches Great American Cowboy Award; at this same exhibit in 2004, ?Along Eagle Creek? won the award. In 2003, the artist was honored with one of the most prestigious awards in western art at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum exhibit. Cox?s painting, ?On to Better Pastures,? won the coveted Prix de West Purchase Award. In 2001, the artist was awarded the Will Rogers Western Artist of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists and Friends of Western Art. Cox is also a three-time winner of the Olaf Wieghorst Best of Show at The Mountain Oyster Club. Tim, a fourth generation Arizonan, and his wife, Suzie, enjoy the life that the artist paints on their ranch in New Mexico that they call home. Surrounded by their cattle and horses, they truly live the western life that most of us can only dream about.

Passing Through by Jim Hansel

Lot 1867S: Passing Through by Jim Hansel

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $450 - $570

Description: Passing Through by Jim Hansel - Edition Size: 480 - Giclee on Canvas - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 12 x 24 Release Date: 11-2009 ???.Jim Hansel is a very talented artist who has achieved success by overcoming special challenges to create his beautiful paintings. At a young age, Hansel demonstrated his artistic ability; throughout his life, he never swayed from his dream of becoming an artist. As long as the artist can recall, his love of wildlife and the outdoors have inspired his work so he may share his vision of nature?s wonders. The world Hansel paints is not always the world he sees. At the age of twelve, he was diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition, which has left him legally blind. Mastering his visual limitations, he has learned to create beautifully-detailed images with magnification and low-vision aids. Working only one or two inches away from the canvas, Hansel painstakingly paints in the details of a work, while forming in his mind a clear picture of the finished painting. Hansel also relies on his camera to capture his ideas and bring them into focus. He uses photographs to bring the landscapes and the wildlife models back to his studio. At this stage of starting a painting, he enlarges the photographs, if necessary, to see them more clearly. Amazingly, the artist then gazes through his glasses and commences his first brush strokes as his painting comes to life a few square inches at a time. Hansel?s visual challenges require him to spend more time on a painting adding his details than many artists?.sometimes working four months on a single canvas. Hansel wants his artwork to be judged on its own merit, not on the basis of an artist with a visual impairment. This determination and being blessed with a talent to create his outstanding images have brought him national recognition. Since his first print release in 1987, he has produced nearly 100 limited editions, and many have sold out. The artist?s attention to detail and distinctive, colorful landscapes are very popular with art collectors nationwide. Hansel credits his wife, Lois, his most ardent supporter, with much of the success of his art. Since their marriage, Lois has been involved in the production of the artist?s prints to ensure the highest possible quality. Their family also includes two children, Joe and Laura. Hansel has received national recognition and numerous awards for his wonderful art. He has been commissioned to create several paintings for Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association. His limited edition prints are successful fundraisers for various conservation organizations. Hansel also has been honored with many other awards throughout his career. Jim Hansel?s art and his success are living testimony to the rewards of hard work and perseverance regardless of life?s challenges.
