by Auctionata

August 11, 2014, 6:00 PM CET

Berlin, Germany

Estimated Price: €4,800 - €6,000

Description: Wood, elaborately carved Europe, 19th Century Neo-Renaissance Lavish wood carvings Dimensions: 192 x 112 x 54 cm This bureau is mainly a product of the Neo-Renaissance with some older elements integrated such as the drop-flap writing surface and the putti on sea monsters, which form the feet. The elaborate figural carving work is striking. Figures in the shape of putti, fauns, dignitaries and even Adam and Eve are portrayed three-dimensionally. On the inside there are eleven drawers and a secret door in the middle. The drop-front is covered in leather on the inside. The bureau is in fair condition according to its age with the usual signs of age and use. The wood shows woodworm holes (inactive), age cracks and partially some material loss. The drop-front shows visible cracks, one across the width. There are signs of restoration work.
