Description: LARGE SCREEN. China, mid 20th century. Red lacquered wooden screen with original hand painted and gilt garden scenes including the Eight Immortals. Eight panels. Some edge loss. 84"h. 128"w. overall.

Condition Report: Most edge loss is along the top edge of the screen with each panel has at least one 1/2" to 1"l. flake on the top edge, noticeable on both front and back. Four to five of the panels have age splits in the lacquer, mostly along the top, longest appears to be 3"l. The end panels also have small chips to edge and lacquer (2-3) on the outside edges. Description: Japanese Six-Fold Screen, Kano School (16th-19th century), late Edo period (1615-1868), the screen depicting a pair of cranes along a river bank, composed of mineral pigments on gold leaf on paper, h. 67-1/2", overall, l. 96".

Condition Report: Abrasions, light soiling and oxidation scattered across the surface of the screen. Some shrinkage and slight pulling throughout, and a split (2" in length) between the gilt and paper on the top of the third panel from the left. Scuffing is quite visible on and around the screen's hinges. A tension line (3" in length) on the far right panel. Chips to the finish of the wooden frame along the very edge of the screen. Wear is commensurate with age and display.
