Sabino Art Deco Monumental Chandelier

Lot 658: Sabino Art Deco Monumental Chandelier

by Tangible Investments

December 21, 2014, 9:00 AM PST

Laguna Beach, CA, USA

Estimated Price: $4,200 - $16,800

Description: Sabino Art Deco Monumental Chandelier.  Spectacular and Rare, Round French Art Deco Ceiling Chandelier. His chandeliers, which were often monumental in size, were made to compliment the architecture of the day. Chandeliers are a great way to complete your room's decor. Sabino created an opalescent glass with a blue hue and iridescent impressions of either clouds in a blue sky, light striking a soap bubble or a reflection from water surface. Apart from the chandeliers, he created a multitude of vases and decorative objects, making great use of his expertise as a sculptor. In particular, busts and statues of women, and an exceptionally large range of animals with stylized features-sometimes in extraordinary large sizes. For example, in 1931 he created a large fish in a limited edition, two of which were bought by Josephine Baker and Maurice Chevalier.

The color change is the primary qualification for a chrysoberyl to be considered alexandrite. Alexandrite is strongly trichroic. Its color change results in a near-equal transmission of the blue-green and red portions of the spectrum, coupled with strong absorption in the yellow. Today Alexandrite is found in Brazil, India, Madagascar, Myanmar, Russia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. Lot 104: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, After, Pair of Cantilever, 1927

by Auctionata

January 19, 2015, 6:00 PM CET

Berlin, Germany

Estimated Price: €560 - €700

Description: Tubular steel, painted black, blue cord yarn known as 'Eisengarn' Germany, 1927 Manufacturer: unknown Czechoslovak manufacturer from the 1930s Tubular steel of smaller diameter than the original design Height: 81 cm, 48 x 60 cm Very good condition Cantilever after the model 'MR10' by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, an everlasting timeless design classicThis pair of cantilevers were made in the 1930s by an unknown Czechoslovak manufacturer. They correspond, with minimal differences, to the cantilever model 'MR10', designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1927. After the chair was exhibited on the Werkbund exhibition within the Stuttgart Weißenhof-project, the idea was picked up by countless manufacturers and eventually produced in slight modifications. The two chairs presented here are characterized by a slightly smaller diameter of the tubular steel. Also unusual is the black finish of the tubular steel, which suits the blue fabric covering. The chairs are 81 cm high, 48 cm wide and 60 cm deep. They are in very good, original condition with signs of age and wear. The fabric covering presumably renewed.Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969)The German-American architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was born in Aachen. While studying he worked for Bruno Paul and Peter Behrens. His first architectural works were yet conventional but step by step he found his own way which meant reduction and focus on the essentials. These are the groundbreaking ideas which led to his most famous architectures, the Weißenhof-Siedlung and the Barcelona pavillon. His use of the steel skeleton and the iron glass contruction is important for modern architecture until now. (afa) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.

Known for her avant-garde and seductive style during the 1920s, her trend setting designs paved the way for what fashion has become today. Coco Chanel became the first great couturière because she adopted a new androgynous style made out of jersey. By the early 20s, Chanel launched her signature cardigan jacket and the following year matched its success with her versatile, semi-formal "little black dress". Both pieces quickly became a Chanel trademark and an enduring fashion standard. To the jacket, she added the luxury Chanel Classic Flapbag 2.55, named after its launch in February 1955. Coco Chanel died on 10 January 1971 at the Hotel Ritz in Paris where she had a residence for more than 30 years. Since 1983, Karl Lagerfeld has been creative director of Chanel's fashion house.
