Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries by Susan Blackwood

Lot 331S: Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries by Susan Blackwood

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014, 5:00 AM PST

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $450 - $570

Description: Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries by Susan Blackwood - Edition Size: 15 - Giclee on Canvas - Artist Proof Dimensions: 20 x 24 Release Date: 7-2010 ???.Pakistan 1975: in the midst of a clambering market place, unable to speak the language...I became aware of the importance of the common bonds that universally unite us all. The necessity to communicate these visions, feelings and emotions became paramount. Art became my language. I have chosen as my subject matter the simple, beautiful touching moments that are common both in nature and in the life of every person. These are the moments that often pass without notice and are the very ones that lend continuity to our lives and contribute to its richness and depth. These moments are the language I use when I paint. As in any meaningful conversation, the structure of the message must be clear. Thus, my color, brush strokes, textures and composition are carefully chosen, like essential words, to convey to the viewer the message that I wish to impart. My studies of classical art techniques began when I was a child and will always continue as I strive for better clarity and higher achievement. As words are carefully chosen for a poem, I, too, limit my brush strokes and detail to relay just enough to give the viewer my thoughts and involve their imagination. I purposely leave areas of my paintings in mystery for the viewer to become engaged in the story. I strive for each painting to be a poem rather than a novel. Some of my loose paintings are like haiku poems that are simple impressionistic vignettes. While some of my paintings are like sonnets, more spelled out in detail. Through the medium that I have chosen, I strive continually to develop a rich and colorful dialog in a language that will reach the heart. Susan won Best of Show 2010 at the American Women Artists National Exhibition held in Dallas.

Romantic Images Of Flower-filled Seaside Gardens, Cozy Cottages, And Ocean Shores, The Paintings Are Bright And Airy And Filled With Lush Colors. Now One Of The Most Popular Nostalgia Artists In The U.s., Landry Was Born On The Coast Of Canada, In Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Grandson Of Two Sea Captains (one Scottish, The Other French), It Was Inevitable That He, Too, Turn To The Sea As He Grew Older, Working With Fishermen On The Banks Of Nova Scotia And Helping Them Pull Up Their Nets And Traps. Never Far Away Were His Sketchpad And Camera. ?i Believe That You Have To Know Your Subject To Paint It Well,? He Says. ?spending Time On The Sea Has Allowed Me To Know Its Many Moods.? By The Time Landry Was Seventeen, He Had Gained Apprentice Status As A Photoengraver. He Started Working His Way Through The Nova Scotia College Of Art And Also Attended The Art Students League In New York City. Shortly Afterward, He Took A Brief Sabbatical To Paint The Sea And The People Who Make Their Living From It. Finally Landry Settled In Connecticut, Where He Taught At Westport?s Famous Artists School And Wrote The Popular Textbook On Drawing And Painting. He Still Lives Near The Shore, Enjoying The Company Of His Wife And Three Children. He Maintains An Interest In Sports Car Racing, Gardening And Golfing. His Second Book, "the Captain?s Garden: A Reflective Journey Home Through The Art Of Paul Landry", Was Published To Unanimous Praise In 1996. His Third Book, "at The Heart Of Christmas," Published In 2001, Was An Instant Sell-out. Landry?s Paintings Have A Loyal And Growing Audience Because They Celebrate The Spirit Of Life And Bring Back Memories Of Halcyon Days. ?the Sea, The Villages That Border It And The People Who Work It All Hold A Great Fascination For Me, Providing Unending Sources Of Inspiration As They Beckon My Heart And Hand.?

Flower Arrangement by Sandra Kuck

Lot 738S: Flower Arrangement by Sandra Kuck

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014, 5:00 AM PST

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $500 - $630

Description: Flower Arrangement by Sandra Kuck - Edition Size: 195 - Giclee on Canvas - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 20 x 30 Release Date: 10-2011 ???.When Sandra Kuck burst onto the scene in the mid-1980s, romanticism was just beginning to attract collectors. Today, romanticism enjoys unprecedented popularity and so does the artist who helped bring it into the spotlight. Ms. Kuck paints the world the way we would like it to be: a beautiful place, where mothers are eternally young and pretty, where children are sweeet and innocent and where there is time to read a book, enjoy a leisurely walk or simply daydream a sunny afternoon away. Her art is like a refuge for collectors, a place they can escape to when pressure and the pace of modern-day living needs to be relieved. Admirers of Sandra Kuck know that this talented artist puts a little of herself into every painting. Her strong sense of family and appreciation for beauty is echoed in all of her works, with which she has captured a loyal and appreciative audience. Sandra describes herself as a "romantic realist.? Her nostalgic settings and angelic children evoke memories and emotions of childhood. With vibrant color, delicate lighting, and exquisite lace and lowers, Sandra creates a romantic and peaceful atmosphere, capturing the beauty and simplicity of days gone by. Sandra finds her inspiration from many different sources, including the special relationship between mother and child, the beauty of a country garden, or the fine furnishings and the clothing of the Victorian era. Her pursuit of perfection, exacting standards, and attention to detail allows her to paint only eight to ten pieces per year. It is this ability to create flawless scenes of serenity, joy, and elegance that has made her one of the most beloved artists in North America. As a child in Ohio and Southern California, Sandra always loved to doodle and sketch. It was during her education at UCLA and The Art Student?s League in New York that she realized her love for painting children and deviated from her professors? emphasis on modern art. Later, it was her husband, John, who encouraged Sandra to pursue her dream of becoming a successful artist. Though they quickly started a family, John cared for the couple?s young children on weekends, so that Sandra could have an opportunity to develop her artistic talents. Once the children started school, Sandra was able to devote more time to her art, while John sold her works to local galleries. Their confidence in her special talents would eventually find embodiment in the collecting public. Thanks to a steadily growing fan base, it was in 1983 that Sandra?s artwork received national recognition. That year she was honored with the National Association of Limited Edition Dealers? (NALED) Plate of the Year, Print of the Year, and Artist of the Year awards. Since 1983, she has been honored each year with awards from NALED, including an unprecedented six-time honor as Artist of the Year. Although she enjoys acclaim, she treasures her time at home in her studio. A modest person, she is still easily embarrassed by praise from her faithful collectors. Sandra has responded to the overwhelming demand of her fans by extending her range of products. She has designed a collection of figurines for Lenox and is currently creating ornaments for Bradford Exchange. V.F. Fine Arts has introduced a new line of limited edition Geclees, which closely resemble her original paintings. Her work can also be found in AMCAL?s line of fine gift stationery items, as well as designs for the Geneva Watch Group and Reader's Digest. SANDRA KUCK BIOGRAPHY Dedication and perseverance have taken Sandra to great heights of success. In addition to her prestigious standing in the collectible community, Sandra was recently commissioned by the Florida Seminole Indian Tribe for a six-foot by nine-foot mural of their children. With such a busy schedule, Sandra still finds time to enjoy her three grandchildren and her home on a lake in South Florida.
