Judy Larson - Paws And Reflect

Lot 253W: Judy Larson - Paws And Reflect

by Artistic Holdings Company

February 5, 2015, 4:45 AM PST

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $230 - $290

Description: Judy Larson - Paws And Reflect - Hand Signed - Limited Edition Print - Image Size: 16"w X 20"h. Limited Edition Of: 3250 - Click Here To Explore The Hidden Image Keys In Judy Larson's Fine Art. "paws And Reflect" Was Inspired By Two Experiences ? Two Very Different Experiences, But With One Fundamental Similarity. Tia Was A Tamed Mountain Lion, Old And A Little Too Well Nourished But Definitely A Beauty. She Greeted Her Owner With Soft, Throaty Noises And Purrs And Rubbed Against His Leg Like A House Cat. In Sharp Contrast To Tia Was A Mountain Lion I Met At A Rehabilitation Center. She Was Obviously Terrified Of Humans And Cowered And Hissed As People Walked By Her Cage. Returning Her To The Wild Was Not An Option Since She Had Been Declawed. In "paws And Reflect," The Fallen Feather Represents An Eagle Free, Free To Drop A Feather During Fight Or Flight. Perhaps Many Eagles Have Soared Above These Rocks And Found Refuge There. The Mountain Lion, Likewise, Even In The Wild, Takes Time To Enjoy His Freedom, To Play And To Wonder. "paws And Reflect" Celebrates That Freedom.

Said Simon About This Leopard. ?the Slightest Sound Or Movement Will Trigger An Instant Reaction From This Apparently Comatose Leopard. I Found This Particular Animal In The Aberdare National Park In The Kenya Highlands. He Was Draped Over The Branch Of A Wild Fig Tree, Perfectly Posed For This Painting. "chui" Is The Swahili Word For Leopard. ?unlike Lions, Leopards Are Solitary. They Often Hunt At Night To Avoid Competing With The Much Larger Lion And A Leopard Will Usually Drag Its Kill Into A Tree To Protect It From Scavengers Like The Hyena. They Will Spend Their Day Draped In The Branches Of A Favorite Tree, Avoiding The Worst Of Ground-level Insects, Catching A Welcome Cooling Breeze And, Through Lazy, Half-closed Eyes, Mentally Logging The Movements And Locations Of Possible Prey Seen From A Treetop Lookout Post. At Dusk, A Leopard Will Descend And Emerge At A Point Where His Instincts Direct Him To Hunt. The Leopard, With His Arrogant Independence, His Ruthless Hunting Skill And Beautiful Coat, Epitomizes Everything Feline.? In 1982, A Version Of "chui" Was First Produced As An Original Lithograph. The Image Was Created By Simon In Only Four Colors As Part Of The Lithography Printing Process. Years Later, A Collector Commissioned Simon To Create A Complete Oil Painting Of "chui." This Fine Art Giclée Canvas Is An Impeccable Replica Of That Original And One Of The Finest Examples Of The Art Of Simon Combes You Could Possess.

Lot 100: Spanish Artist PABLO PICASSO - Ltd Ed Litho Signed

by The Written Word Autographs

February 12, 2015, 1:00 PM PST

Tamworth, NH, USA

Estimated Price: $6,000 - $10,000

Description: Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) Spanish artist. Picasso was a painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright who spent most of his adult life in France. As one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture. In 1930 Picasso was commissioned to produce a set of etchings by the art dealer and publisher Ambroise Vollard which became known as the Vollard Suite. Picasso worked extensively on the set in the spring of 1933 and completed the suite in 1937. It took a further two years for the printmaker Roger Lacourière to finish printing the 230 full sets, but the death of Vollard in 1939 and the Second World War meant that the sets only started coming onto the art market in the 1950s. This is one lithograph from a 1969 series of plates, "Edition speciale pour commemorer le 80 anniversaire de la tour Eiffel" or, translated, "Special edition to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Eiffel Tower". The majority of drawings in this were mildly to wildly erotic in nature. It is 8" x 11" print from the Suite, depicting. Picasso's mistress, Marie-Thérèse Walter as a model lying in the arms of a bearded sculptor, signed in pencil, and matted and framed to 20" x 18 ½".

Lion's Lair by Edward Aldrich

Lot 108S: Lion's Lair by Edward Aldrich

by Artistic Holdings Company

January 31, 2015, 4:45 AM PST

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $300 - $380

Description: Lion's Lair by Edward Aldrich - Edition Size: 950 - Print - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 18 x 34 Release Date: 3-2008 ???.In the vast wildlife world of Edward Aldrich, the image of an animal is more than a realistic portrayal; the artist captures the very essence of his subject. Aldrich is dedicated to reaching beyond the rendering of wildlife and the natural world; his belief is that conveying the inherent being of an animal is integral to his art. The viewer is drawn into a scene not to simply look at and appreciate it, but feels he or she has actually witnessed the wonder of wildlife. The artist?s style breaths life into his subjects and conveys a feeling of actually there. Aldrich?s precise brush technique and sense of light and composition place him in the tradition of the past masters of 19th century Britain such as Sir Edwin Henry Landseer. Aldrich graduated from the Rhode Island School of design in 1987 and has enjoyed a very successful career in wildlife painting. He paints in watercolor and in oil and travels the world to view, sketch, and photograph his subjects. The artist paints a broad spectrum of wildlife and its varied habitats, but prefers the cats, North American wildlife, and birds. As an accomplished painter, Aldrich has received numerous awards, and his work has been exhibited in shows throughout the country. In 2000, the artist received the Elliott Lisken Award of Excellence from The Society of Animal Artists. Aldrich participates in annual shows such as "Small Works, Small Wonders? at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum; "Western Visions? at the National Museum of Wildlife Art; the Oil Painters of America Annual National Show; and the "Birds in Art? at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum to name a few. The artist has also had twelve one-man shows in his career. Aldrich?s book, "Drawing and Painting Animals,? features over 100 of his paintings and drawings. In this stunning book, the viewer journeys with the artist deep into the creative process as he shares his thoughts about what goes into his artwork. by Artistic Holdings Company

February 1, 2015, 4:45 AM PST

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $210 - $270

Description: Scott Gustafson - Daniel In The Lion´s Den - Hand Signed - Limited Edition Print - Image Size: 18 1/2"w X 25"h. Limited Edition Of: 550 - Like Children?s Stories, Bible Stories Teach Us Lessons About Life. ?i Grew Up In A Small Town And Attended A Lutheran Grade School Where I Was Taught Many Bible Stories At A Very Early Age,? Says Artist Scott Gustafson. ?i Think Of My Approach To My Artwork As A Form Of Storytelling; And Although Most Of My Work To Date Has Been Illustrating Fairy Tales, Nursery Rhymes And Other Forms Of Literature, It All Really Comes Down To Telling A Story In Pictures. "the Story Of Daniel Is About A Man Who Is Punished For His Beliefs By A King Who Was Swayed By Vanity And Bad Advice. But Daniel Is Also The Story Of True Faith In The Face Of Death And Of A Man Who Had The Strength Of His Convictions. I Chose To Depict Daniel Standing In A Pool Of Mysterious Light. Behind And Around Him, Lions Lurk In The Shadows ? Nearly Brushing His Robes As They Pace To And Fro. Yet, These Ravenous Beasts Dare Not Lay A Single Paw On The Seemingly Vulnerable Figure Who Stands In Their Midst. In These Turbulent Times, The Story Of Daniel Seems Very Appropriate. For Although His Faith Is The Reason He Was Thrown To The Lions, It Was Also Daniel?s Faith That Ultimately Saved Him.?
