Description: Charlie Chaplin (1899-1977) and Oona Chaplin (1925-1991) Chaplin is widely regarded as the greatest comic artist of the screen and one of the most important figures in motion-picture history. As his alter ego, the Little Tramp, he improvised an outfit consisting of a too-small coat, too-large pants, floppy shoes, and a battered derby. As a finishing touch, he pasted on a postage-stamp mustache and adopted a cane as an all-purpose prop. Oona was the daughter of Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Eugene O'Neill, and Chaplin's fourth and last wife. Description: Basketball History: Ernest Hildner (1873-1968) Basketball pioneer. On December 21, 1891, James Naismith published rules for a new game using five base ideas and thirteen rules. That day, he asked his class to play a match in the Armory Street court at the Springfield, Massachusetts YMCA: 9 versus 9, using a soccer ball and two peach baskets. Someone proposed to call it "Naismith Game", but he suggested "We have a ball and a basket: why don't we call it basket ball"? Hildner was one of the eighteen players chosen to play in the initial game. Hildner and the seventeen other "First Team" participants were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1959. The best all-around player of the twenties, Holman came into the spotlight by leading Germantown to the 1921 Eastern League title. Playing the majority of his career with the world famous Original Celtics, Holman's extraordinary skills, a deft passer and brilliant floor leader were innovative for the era, and helped make the Celtics virtually unbeatable. He also coached at the City College of New York (CCNY) from 1919. In 1950, CCNY became the first and only college team in history to win both the NCAA and NIT tournaments in the same season. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1964. First day of issue postal cover with the Naismith commemorative and cachet, signed.
