Wichita Work by Ragan Gennusa

Lot 1401S: Wichita Work by Ragan Gennusa

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $600 - $750

Description: Wichita Work by Ragan Gennusa - Edition Size: 25 - Giclee on Canvas - Artist Proof Dimensions: 18 x 24 Release Date: 4-2013 ???.Ragan Gennusa grew up in East Texas enjoying the outdoors and sports, but he was drawn to art and could always be found using his pencils and brushes when he had an opportunity. ?Art was just something I always enjoyed,? he recalls. Gennusa took art classes in high school, along with being an All-State quarterback, and accepted a football scholarship to the University of Texas where he played wide receiver and majored in art. Gennusa credits his training as an athlete for teaching him to value courage, tenacity, and the importance of character in pursuit of life as well as an artistic career. After college, Gennusa worked as an artist for an Austin printing company, then as a staff artist for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. His talent was quickly recognized, and he was eventually promoted to art department supervisor. Although he enjoyed his job at the department, the day-to-day administrative work took its toll, and he left to paint exclusively for an Austin art gallery. This decision was a turning point in Gennusa?s career. Gallery work allowed Gennusa to develop his art. During this time, he became involved with the Gulf Coast Conservation Association, Ducks Unlimited, and other similar groups. ?I?ve been fortunate to meet a lot of people in the sporting arena who liked my art,? says Gennusa. The artist now has a thriving career painting the great outdoors and its endless sporting images; his many commissions to paint animals or the Western landscape are sought by people throughout the United States. Gennusa is well known for his longhorn paintings, some of which have been special commissions for the University of Texas, and his horse images. Wild turkeys are also one of Gennusa?s favorite subjects. Working mostly on commission, the artist very much enjoys visiting ranches throughout Texas and learning about their history, which has fostered his interest in Western and Native American themes. Gennusa has established a very successful art career and strives to keep up with the demand for his work. In 1986, he was selected the Texas State Artist, and he recently received the 2005 ?Texas Star Preservation Award? from the Gillespie County Historical Society. The artist livesin one of Texas? most picturesque regions. Gennusa says, ??after a particularly good day of painting, I walk out of my studio overlooking the beautiful Texas Hill Country, and I truly feel that I am the richest, luckiest man on earth!? ?Being an artist has made my life very rewarding. The great western artist Charles Russell said, ?Any man that can make a living doing what he likes is lucky, and I am that.?? - Ragan Gennusa

Description: Peace on Blue Lake by David Mann - Edition Size: 25 - Canvas - Artist Proof Dimensions: 28 x 21 Release Date: 4-2005 ???.David Mann?s life focus has been his interest in the Native American culture, horses, and art. As a child, the artist collected any Remington and Russell prints he found along with books illustrated by Will James, Paul Brown, and Wesly Dennis. Mann knows his subjects well from studying the history and culture of the Western Indian tribes. Born in Utah, the artist lived among the Southwestern tribes during a two-year mission in New Mexico and Arizona. During his time with the San Carlos Apache, Navajo, and Pueblo tribes, Mann absorbed layers of meaning that give depth to the human stories he tells. Mann?s paintings are alive in rich colors, remarkable illusion of day and moonlight, and energetic or quiet compositions. The artist seeks to capture the personal moment of truth and has the benefit of working with Indian and mountain men who model for him. Mann looks deeply into his subjects, envisioning the joys and sorrows that have contributed to the strength of a culture. The artist?s paintings are known for careful attention to detail including clothing, saddles, jewelry, and the many other symbols and accoutrements that are part of his subjects? cultures. Collapse of the Peach Orchard Line - Gettysburg by Bradley Schmehl

Lot 1588S: Collapse of the Peach Orchard Line - Gettysburg by Bradley Schmehl

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $390 - $490

Description: Collapse of the Peach Orchard Line - Gettysburg by Bradley Schmehl - Edition Size: 950 - Print - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 20 x 30 Release Date: 11-1998 ???.As an artist who loves and studies history, Bradley Schmehl has made it his life?s work to research the subjects for his paintings through diaries, letters, books, visiting historical sites, and generally immersing himself in any materials available to him. From the Civil War to the cowboys of the West, Schmehl finds his subjects fascinating. Talking and exchanging ideas and information with others who share Schmehl?s interest in history also offer the artist opportunities to expand his resources. The artist says, ?History is a world which is past, yet exerts its influence on us all. It is possible to visit and experience the world of history through the work of writers, filmmakers, living historians, and artists. I want to help open the window on our history so that more people can share in the view.? Schmehl?s detailed paintings reflect the many historical aspects he includes in his images. As an avid reader, the artist tries to capture in his mind the events chronicled in the books and other materials he reads. Schmehl also consults with historical experts. Armed with all the research available to him, the artist?s goal is always to paint each element of an event or story. From uniforms to weapons to horses to even the time of day and weather conditions, Schmehl?s paintings are as authentic as possible. The artist usually starts with a rough pencil sketch, mostly done on location, then he engages his models to pose as the various characters in the image and photographs them. Once Schmehl is satisfied that his concept is historically accurate, he commences creating his painting. Working in oil on canvas, the artist creates a rough under-painting. After drying, he over-paints the details and refines his brushwork. Schmehl describes his technique as ?painterly realism.? ?I strive to capture the true nature of the light, the color, but I make no effort to disguise the brushstrokes. Even while attempting to render meticulous detail, I strive to paint boldly and deliberately.? Schmehl has traveled throughout the country in pursuit of his subject matter. Extensive trips to Civil War battlefields, to other historical sites, to even being on the range in Texas have allowed the artist to collect and record the many, many notes, sketches, and library of materials that contribute to Schmehl?s fine work. A Schmehl painting gives the viewer a unique perspective on the subject matter portrayed. As the details in the image come to life, an appreciation of history is evident. When not on a research trip, Schmehl cherishes the time he and his wife, Becky, spend in their 1885 Victorian home with their two cats. As committed Christians, the artist and his wife are active in their church; Brad plays the guitar in the worship band. Come live history through the eyes and paintings of Bradley Schmehl?it will be a most enjoyable journey.

Description: The Omaha by David Mann - Edition Size: 95 - Giclee on Paper - Artist Proof Dimensions: 38 x 17 Release Date: 6-2009 ???.David Mann?s life focus has been his interest in the Native American culture, horses, and art. This unforgettable and invaluable time spent with the Indians allowed the artist to experience first-hand the stories, dignity, and culture magic of their lives. The artist?s paintings are known for careful attention to detail including clothing, saddles, jewelry, and the many other symbols and accoutrements that are part of his subjects? cultures. Press Forward, Men by Bradley Schmehl

Lot 1834S: Press Forward, Men by Bradley Schmehl

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $300 - $380

Description: Press Forward, Men by Bradley Schmehl - Edition Size: 950 - Print - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 20 x 30 Release Date: 1-2003 ???.As an artist who loves and studies history, Bradley Schmehl has made it his life?s work to research the subjects for his paintings through diaries, letters, books, visiting historical sites, and generally immersing himself in any materials available to him.

On One Late Summer Afternoon Escape, Traveling To The Mendocino Coast, I Discovered The California Wine Country. I Was So Happy To Have Found A Place In California That Reminded Me Of My Long Lost Fields Of Pennsylvania.
