Art Nouveau Rings

Between 1890 and 1914, Art Nouveau reached the height of its popularity. The period was a response to the end of the Impressionist Era and was strongly focused on nature, which allowed jewelry designers a source of inspiration and an almost unprecedented freedom in their design.

Art Nouveau rings are often shaped in organic forms representing flowers, dragonflies, or leaves. Female figures are also often incorporated into the designs. Because of that connection to nature, Art Nouveau rings also quite colorful.

The use of diamonds for Art Nouveau rings is common, as well as the use of emeralds, rubies, and opals. A lot of these stones are cut as a cabochon – they don't feature any straight planes, but rather are smooth like a dome. To portray objects in nature, including engravings of floral themes, ring designers also used enamel.

Because of their distinct look, not many jewelry brands have Art Nouveau designs in their current collection. Some unique vintage rings, however, remain in good condition, serving as a unique addition to any jewelry collection.
