“I tried different techniques during my career, but I especially fell in love with painting with oil and palette knife. Every artwork is the result of a long painting process; every canvas is born during the creative search; every painting is full of my inner world.”

Leonid Afremov

Born and educated in Belarus, Leonid Afremov honed his craft using oil paints and palette knives, creating artworks recognized for their vibrant impasto technique. Creating the majority of his works while living in Israel, Afremov found inspiration in the country’s vibrant southern sun, infusing his pieces with warmth and energy. Among his most iconic works is Misty Café, a testament to his mastery of warm color palettes and his penchant for capturing slightly blurred urban scenes.

Seeking freedom from designing propaganda posters in Belarus, Afremov spent a total of 20 years living and painting in Israel and Florida before eventually settling in Mexico. It was in Playa Del Carmen where he established Afremov Studio and dedicated himself to mentoring young artists, inviting them to replicate and sell his work even after his passing.

With his fluid blending style and broken color techniques, Afremov's paintings take inspiration from Impressionism, capturing fleeting moments with remarkable depth and emotion. He firmly believed that his choice of artistic media and tools were integral to his unwavering passion for creation, allowing him to express himself authentically through his art. Notably, Afremov was a self-representing artist who predominantly promoted and sold his work over the Internet, with minimal involvement from galleries or dealers, cementing his reputation as a visionary in the digital art world.
