    Robert Weir Allan, attr., Klosterruine Tintern Abbey spätsommerlicher Blick vom Fluss Wye, über Wiesen mit Bauern bei der Arbeit, auf die mit Efeu überwucherte Ruine des 1131 gestifteten und 1536 aufgegebenen mittelalterlichen Zisterzienser-Klosters Tintern Abbey im britischen Wales, das Kloster war das erste Zisterzienserkloster in Wales und das zweitälteste in Großbritannien und gehörte zu den vermögendsten Klöstern des Landes, im Zuge der Gründung der anglikanischen Staatskirche nach 1531 unter Heinrich VIII. musste das Kloster 1536 aufgegeben und das Vermögen der britischen Krone übergeben werden, die Gebäude wurden dem Verfall preisgegeben und erlangten erst mit der aufkommenden Romantik im 18. Jh. an Bedeutung, 1782 verfasste der Pfarrer William Gilpin seinen populären Reiseführer "Observations on the River Wye", welcher das Kloster wieder ins Bewusstsein der Menschen zurückholte, Künstler wie Thomas Gainsborough und William Turner verewigten die romantischen Ruinen in ihren Gemälden und der Dichter und führende Vertreter der englischen Romantik, William Wordsworth, besuchte 1793 die Abbey und veröffentlichte 1798 sein berühmtes Gedicht "Lines Composed A Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey, On Revisiting The Banks Of The Wye During A Tour. July 13, 1798", effektvolle, gering pastose Malerei, Öl auf Leinwand, um 1870, links unten signiert "Allan", Altersspuren, in neuzeitlicher Goldstuckleiste gerahmt, Falzmaße ca. 40,5 x 61 cm. Robert Weir Allan, attr, The ruins of Tintern Abbey spartan summer view from the River Wye, across meadows with farmers at work, to the ivy-covered ruins of the medieval Cistercian monastery of Tintern Abbey in Wales, founded in 1131 and abandoned in 1536, the monastery was the first Cistercian monastery in Wales and the second oldest in Great Britain and was one of the wealthiest monasteries in the country, in the course of the foundation of the Anglican state church after 1531 under Henry VIII. The monastery had to be abandoned in 1536 and the assets handed over to the British Crown. The buildings were left to decay and were only restored to their former glory with the rise of Romanticism in the 18th century. Century.
