        Penna e tempera su carta. mm 330x250. Firmato e datato in basso a sinistra. Gustosa scena di gusto Déco ambientata al tempo del Direttorio: una "elegantona", in abito alla greca e con un cappello dalla spropositata visiera, mentre passeggia in compagnia di un borghese attempato e panciuto, consegna furtiva un biglietto d'amore a un giovane vestito da moscardino completo di bastone. I giovani muscardins, caratterizzati dalla cura ricercata e pretenziosa dell'abbigliamento e dall'atteggiamento snob, erano detti anche "incroyables". Gli Incroyables e le Merveilleuses (Incredibili, stupefacenti e Meravigliose, le donne corrispondenti) erano gli esponenti di una moda della Francia del periodo del Direttorio (1795-1799) caratterizzata da un lusso estremo ostentato, da stravaganze esibite nell'abbigliamento e nella condotta di vita, originati da una reazione ai tristi tempi che la società francese aveva attraversato durante il Terrore rivoluzionario.
