Born in 1931 in Brierly Hill, Staffordshire, artist John Ambrose loved art as a child, and he was formally trained in art in the West Midlands. After many vacations in Cornwall, he eventually rented a cottage and studio in the area and spent the next 30 years living and working there. John Ambrose's oil paintings of the Cornish sea and Venice waterways, which he created during trips to Italy, exquisitely capture the movement of the water and the atmosphere through his skilled use of color.

Artist John Ambrose exhibited his artwork in Germany in the early 1980s, and he garnered a large following in that country.
