Aden F. Arnold (Iowa, 1901-1973) BREAKING DAWN oil on canvasboard, framed, signed H14" W20" Provenance: Property from a Texas Estate
Charlton HallAmerican. Oil on Canvas. Signed upper right. S: 19 1/4 x 15 1/2 in. O: 24 1/2 x 20 1/2 in. The artist was born in 1901 at Jefferson, Iowa. He received both a bachelor and masters degrees in art from the University of Iowa. Arnold taught Graphic and Plastic arts at the University of Iowa while exhibiting his own works at institutions nationwide, including the Corcoran Gallery and the National Academy of Design. He studied under artist Grant Wood, who heavily influenced his style and career. Arnold was appreciated most for his painting skills and many of his works hang in public buildings in Iowa. Later in life, he taught art at the University of Montana, until his death in 1972. Shortly before his death, his large personal collection of his works were destroyed by fire in Montana. His work is housed in permanent collections at the University of Iowa Art Museum, University of Montana Museum of Art & Culture, Missoula Museum of the Arts, Museum of Modern Art.
