Paul Ashbrook Sold at Auction Prices

Painter, b. 1867 - d. 1949

A student of William Merritt Chase at the Art Students League in New York City, the artist Paul Ashbrook began his career as an illustrator. Though he was born in New York and had his own studio there, he left in 1900 to become the Director of the Design Department for Henderson Lithographic Company in Cincinnati. He continued his art education by taking classes from Frank Duveneck at the Cincinnati Art Academy where he also taught. After becoming a designer for Strobridge Lithograph Company, artist Paul Ashbrook created posters for the Barnum and Bailey Circus.

Ashbrook was an avid traveler, taking many trips to Europe and Mexico. During his travels, his work included oil paintings of Mexican villages and European landscapes. Many Paul Ashbrook portraits for sale feature studies of people he encountered during those travels. Enjoy the simple beauty of intriguing vintage and collectible portrait paintings offered for auction at Invaluable.
