Sold at Auction: Mabel Lucie Attwell

Mabel Lucie Attwell's prints are loved by both adults and children. Her illustrations of children's literature were so well-regarded in her time that J.M. Barrie personally requested she illustrates a 1921 edition of Peter Pan and Wendy.  In addition to her illustrations, Mabel Lucie Attwell's art depicts characters known as Boo-Boos, which were small, green, fairy-like characters from a series of children's books she wrote.

Mabel Lucie Attwell's art projects were diverse; one of her most notable pieces, War Baby, is a figurine of a small child dressed as a soldier, and it's based on an earlier painting of hers. The chubby-cheeked children depicted in Mabel Lucie Attwell's paintings and illustrations were originally based on her daughter.
