Nicely framed Old Master painting portraying Mary (Mother), Joseph (Earthly Father), the infant Jesus, and the young John the Baptist, along with probably Saint Elizabeth. Circa16th or 17th Century, artist unknown. Most likely attribution: An Italian Baroque painter (Perhaps Sisto Badalocchio 1585–c.1647)workshop, probably from the Bolognese/Emilian school, rather than a famous master himself. JUNGE FRAU MIT KIND BEI DER LEKTÜRE Öl auf Kupfer. 22 x 17 cm. Die Darstellung lässt sich ebenso als Maria mit Kind verstehen, wobei die jugendliche Mutter dabei im Begriff ist, in einem Buch aufmerksam zu lesen, während das Kind einen mehrdeutigen Blick dem Betrachter entgegenwirft. Die Gewandung in Rot und Blau, sowie das Gebetbuch weisen jedoch ikonographisch auf die Darstellung Mariens. Der Stil des vorliegenden Bildes verrät den Caravaggismus der Bologneser Schule. Sisto Badalocchio arbeitete auch als Kupferstecher und war Mitarbeiter von Agostino (1557–1602) und Annibale Carracci (1560–1609) sowie Weggefährte des Giovanni Lanfranc (1582–1647), mit dem er nach Rom zog, um an der Ausmalung des Palazzo Farnese mitzuwirken. LANDSCHAFT MIT JOHANNES DEM TÄUFER Öl auf Leinwand, auf Holzplatte, verso zweimal verstärkt. 72 x 60,5 cm. In vergoldetem Prunkrahmen. Am Ufer eines Flusses, auf Steinen sitzend, Johannes der Täufer in dem ihm attributiv zugeordneten Fellgewand mit rotem Mantelüberwurf. Vor ihm ein kleines, zwischen den Steinen festgestecktes Holzkreuz mit Rotulus, auf dem die Worte „ECCE AGNUS DEI“ zu lesen sind, daneben ein Wasser schlürfendes Schaf. Johannes hat einen schmalen Nimbus um sein Haupt, weist mit großem Gestus mit ausgestrecktem rechtem Arm und Fingerzeig in die Ferne, wohl auf die Ankunft Jesu hin, blickt dabei aus dem Bild heraus und scheint mit geöffnetem Mund den Betrachter direkt anzusprechen. Sisto Badalocchio fu allievo di Agostino Carracci all’Accademia degli Incamminati a Bologna. Inviato a Roma per collaborare con Annibale Carracci nella prestigiosa Galleria Farnese, ebbe modo di conoscere i maestri rinascimentali e Caravaggio, quindi di accrescere la propria cultura e preparazione. Terminata l’esperienza romana, fece ritorno in Emilia, dove operò per il resto della sua vita, con il suo bagaglio di innovazioni espressive e luministiche che lo condussero ad una rilettura della lezione dei Carracci e del Correggio con accenti più enfatici e drammatici tipici della cultura barocca romana. The painting is an autograph version of a panel with a similar subject held at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford (see G. Berti, in Sisto Badalocchio, edited by M. Pirondini, Manerba–Reggio Emilia 2004, pp. 141–142, 165–166, nos. 63–83). L'attribuzione a Badalocchio Ã¨ in questo caso suggerita dall'analogia con la versione conservata alla Pinacoteca di Parma (olio su tela, cm 86x98). Trace of a barely visible horizontal crease and a very short tear on the crease. Otherwise in good condition.

(Parma, 1585 - 1647 circa) Maddalena Olio su tela, cm 85X70 Allievo all'Accademia dei Carracci a Bologna, il pittore si trasferì nella Città Eterna al seguito di Annibale, con lui collaborò alla decorazione della cappella Errera nella chiesa di S. Giacomo degli Spagnoli in Roma, eseguita fra il 1602 e 1607. Alla morte del maestro nel 1610, Badalocchio svolse la sua attività nella Città Eterna e in Emilia, per poi trasferirsi definitivamente a Parma nel 1617. La tela in esame trova confronto con quella conservata alle Gallerie di Capodimonte (cfr. M. Pirondini, Sisto Badalocchio, Reggio Emilia 2004, p. 146, n. 68).

DIE ANBETUNG DER HIRTEN Öl auf Kupfer. 28 x 24 cm. Hinter Glas in teilvergoldetem bemaltem Rahmen. Das Motiv geht zurück auf die Weihnachtsgeschichte im Lukasevangelium (Lk 2,8-20). In einem zur Decke hin geöffneten Innenraum, oberhalb dreier Stufen, Maria in rot-blauem Gewand, das nackte Jesuskind auf einem Laken haltend, das auf einer strohgedeckten Bettstatt liegt. Hinter ihr links Josef auf einen Stab gestützt, auf sie herabblickend. Rechts vor dem Kinde drei Hirten, andächtig und überrascht das Jesuskind anblickend, einer von ihnen ein kleines Schaf in seiner linken Hand haltend. Rechts unten eine Frau mit einem weiteren Kind, ebenfalls das Neugeborene anbetend. Am linken unteren Bildrand ein Engel in weißer Kleidung und großen weißen Flügeln mit einem aufgeschlagenen Buch sitzend, der wohl den Hirten erschienen ist und ihnen die Geburt des Gotteskindes verkündet hat. Die Darstellung in zurückhaltender Farbigkeit mit gekonnter Hell-Dunkel-Inszenierung ist ein seit dem Mittelalter beliebtes Motiv in der christlichen Kunst. Badalocchio B1585 'Rest on Flight into Egypt' Oil Sisto Badalocchio Parma 1585 - after 1620, the rest on the flight into Egypt" This intimate portrayal of The Rest on the Flight into Egypt is a characteristic example of the type of pictures in which Sisto excelled. It demonstrates the artist's ability in combining the tenderness of Correggio with the monumentality of the Carracci and in particular of Annibale, under whose direction he worked in the Palazzo Farnese in Rome from 1603, and in whose house he is known to have lodged, together with Giovanni Lanfranco. This oil may be closely compared to Sisto's painting of the same subject in the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford (see La Scuola dei Carracci.
