Noe Badillo

Noé Badillo is an artist and scholar of art history. His work has been exhibited internationally in galleries as well as at the Latino Museum of Art, History and Culture in Los Angeles, and at the Tucson Museum of Art. Most recently, he was awarded the Gold Medal by the Chemin des Arts at a travelling series of exhibits in the Burgundy region of France. His work was included in the Biennial Exhibition at the Tucson Museum of Art in 2012. In 2010, his work was showcased at the exhibition Hybridity: American Unity at the Latino Museum, where his work is included in the permanent collection.

His most recent academic publication is the chapter entitled "Robert Grosseteste and the Phenomenological Nature of Geometry and Light" in the book Bishop Robert Grosseteste and Lincoln Cathedral: Tracing Relationships between Medieval Concepts of Order and Built Form, ed. John Hendrix, Nicholas Temple and Christian Frost (Surrey: Ashgate). His contribution compares Grosseteste's philosophy of light to the modern-day philosophy of phenomenology. In 2012, he published "Language Beyond Metaphor: The Structural Symbolism of Borromini's Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza" in The Cultural Role of Architecture: Contemporary and Historical Perspectives, ed. Paul Emmons, John Hendrix and Jane Lomholt (London: Routledge).

Noé studied under the conceptual artist Osvaldo Romberg in Philadelphia during 2004-2006. During his apprenticeship, he studied classical painting by way of mastercopying, drafting, architectural modeling, and theoretical art.

Noé's work contrasts qualities of formality and classicism, with more contemporary motifs. His work has been called "antiquarian futurism" by the artist and curator Victor Navarro. There are many works involving religious mysticism, other works that are subtle yet powerful portrait studies, and other works involving a theoretical interest in geometry and language. Since getting married to his wife Elizabeth in 2012, his work has shifted toward portraiture of her and his two kids, Griffin and Elliot, including more family oriented themes.

He currently lives with his wife and two sons in Naples, Italy.
