(5) ⁂ The contentious 'truck system' was an arrangement whereby wages were paid partly or wholly in credit with specified retailers. Die berühmte Porträtsammlung von David Bailey (geboren 1938), dem britischen Kultfotograf der 1960er-Jahre. Er diente Antonioni als Vorbild für den rastlosen Fotomanen in »Blow Up« (1967). - »Die Einordnung Baileys als Zentralfigur der Popkultur der 1960er-Jahre beruht mehr auf dem sozialen Milieu sowie den Themen seiner Porträts als auf einem Ausdruck seiner Arbeit als solcher. Bewusst distanzierte er sich von dem Bild des durch die USA propagierten ›swinging London‹ [...]. Ende 1964 befand sich Baileys Haltung zur Modefotografie bereits im Wandel. Langeweile und Ernüchterung schlichen sich ein. Seinerzeit arbeitete er an jenen Porträts, die im folgenden Jahr als ›David Bailey's Box of Pin-ups‹ erscheinen sollten und eine Diversifizierung seines Schaffens einleiteten, die erst in den 1970ern voll zur Geltung kam.« (Martin Harrison, in: Koetzle). - Mit Porträts der Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger, David Hockney, Michael Caine, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Jean Shrimpton, Terence Stamp und vielen anderen. Sitters include Mick Jagger, David Hockney, Michael Caine, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Jean Shrimpton and Terence Stamp.
