Daraus 1 Band mit 26 Doppelblätter mit kalligraphischem Text in Holzschnitt und 27 (davon 17 doppelseitigen) Holzschnitten im Schablonenkolorit in Schwarz, Grau und Blassorange. 25 x 16,5 cm. Broschur d. Z. mit montiertem TSchild mit Fadenheftung (diese stark gelockert, beinahe lose) in Blockbuchbindung. Tokio, Okura Magobei, um 1884. Einzelband des Album der Hundert Vögel von dem japanischen Künstler Kôno Bairei (1844-1895), des auf diesem Gebiet führenden Meisters der Ukiyo-e Schule in der Meiji-Periode, das 1881 und 1884 erschien. Kôno Bairei stammte aus Kyoto, der Kaiserstadt des alten Japan, wo er die Kunst der klassischen japanischen Malerei erlernte, sich dann aber den Künstlern des Ukiyo-e zuwandte und die "Kyoto Prefectual School of Painting" gründete. Verlegt wurde sein Hauptwerk, das Album mit Vögeln und Blumen (kacho gafu) in mehreren Ausgaben zwischen 1881 und 1899 bei Okura Magobei; vier verschiedene Holzschneider sind bekannt. – Papierbedingt minimal gebräunt, kaum Gebrauchsspuren. Bindung beinahe lose. Holzschnitte in sehr guter Erhaltung.

Blockbuch in OBroschur (diese mit Oberflächenabrieb, leicht fleckig) mit weißer Seidenfadenheftung und Titelschild (dieses stockfleckig). Tokio, Meiji um 1900. -- Das Blockbuch zeigt eine Reihe feiner Farbholzschnitte von Pflanzen, Blumen und Gemüse, ein Auszug aus seiner Serie der "Hundert Sorten von Blumen". Der in Kyoto, der ehemaligen Kaiserstadt, geborene Künstler Kôno Bairei (1844-1895), erlernte zunächst die klassische Malerei, wandte sich jedoch später dem Ukiyo-e zu und gründete die 'Kyoto Prefectural School of Painting'. – Mit Gebrauchsspuren, im Bug mit Wasserrand. Japan, 1881-84 (Meiji 14-17). Ca. 24,6 x 16,2 cm. (11) - Das Los besteht aus 18 Doppelblättern und 18 Einzelblättern aus dem bedeutenden Werk von Kono Bairei einschließlich der Supplementbände. Die Reihe erschien ab 1881 bei dem Verleger Okura Magobei in zunächst 3 Bänden. 1884 schuf Kono Bairei dann nochmals 3 Bände als Supplement. Die Blätter zeigen Vögel in ihrem natürlichen Habitat. Die Tonalität ist auf Schwarz, Weiß und weiche warme Rotorangetöne beschränkt, was den Holzschnitten einen eigenen Zauber verleiht. - Bairei erhielt seine Ausbildung in seiner Geburtsstadt, der alten Kaiserstadt Kyoto. Im Stil der Maruyama-Schule, später der Shijo-Schule unterrichtet, bildete er sich im Stil der Nanga-Schule weiter. Er zählt zu den zentralen Künstlerpersönlichkeiten in Kyoto seiner Zeit.

Quarto volume delle "Mille tipi di fiori" a cura di Kono Bairei, noto pittore e illustratore giapponese (1844-1895). Il volume contiene 50 xilografie a colori. Legatura editoriale in cartoncino verde cucito. Si tratta di una superba botanica e farmacopea giapponese, che comprende fiori e ortaggi, nonché piante commerciali. Questo tipo di dizionario botanico o "erboristico" veniva utilizzato sia dai medici che dai laici per identificare le piante per uso medicinale. Nel lotto tra gli altri anche Hokusai manga, cioè una raccolta di schizzi con vari soggetti, ad opera di Katsushika Hokusai. (4)

KONO BAIREI: A GROUP OF SIX WOODBLOCK PRINT ALBUMS By Kano Bairei (1844-1895) Japan, 19th century Woodblock print album. Ink and color on paper. Each ehon (picture book) sewn together and containing various illustrations. The first five albums comprise Bairei’s three volume set titled Bairei hyakucho gafu (Bairei's Drawing-book of One Hundred Birds). This set, dated 1881, consists of: two copies of Vol. 1, Vol 2, Vol. 2 (pt. 2), and Vol. 3. The album illustrates various types of birds in their natural habitat. Dimensions ca. 24.4 x 17.4 (each) The sixth album, titled Ehon inaka no tsuki (Picture book, Moon in the Countryside), dated 1889, illustrates a fine selection of birds, fish, and animals. With an English index, this book was clearly marketed to attract foreigners as well as Japanese collectors. Dimensions: 24.2 x 16.5 cm Condition: Good condition with minor wear and bright colors. Some fading, minor stains, wear to the covers, loose threads with some associated loose pages. Provenance: Estate of Wolfgang Zacke (1942-2022), co-founder of Galerie Zacke, thence by descent.
