    Oil on canvas, relined Denmark, circa 1860 Joel (John) Ballin (1822-1885) - Danish painter and engraver Inscribed with ‘Painted from John Ballin from Denmark.’ to the lower left edge Inscribed with ‘Lady Drummond’ on a plaque In partly gilt ornate frame (later) Size of painting: 90 x 71.5 cm Good condition The present portrait of ‘Lady Drummond’ is the work of the Danish painter and engraver Joel (John) Ballin (1822-1885). Ballin studied at the Copenhagen Academy, lived for a time in Germany and was known for his engravings throughout Europe. The fine oval Biedermeier portrait convinces by an excellent artistic execution that is evident also in the artist’s engravings. The painting is inscribed with ‘Painted from John Ballin from Denmark.’ to the lower left margin and mounted in a partly gilt ornament frame (later). The canvas has been relined. The condition of the painting is very good .The color surface shows a few small losses of paint. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered areas of retouching to the background. The size of the painting is 90 x 71.5 cm, and the frame measures 107 x 89 cm. (cko) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
