Florence Barlow (1856-1909) for Doulton Lambeth A pair of stoneware vases Late 19th century, of shouldered form with an everted rim, each decorated with three reserves of birds amongst foliage, impressed and incised marks (21.5cm high) (2) Condition Report: Overall both vases appear mostly in good order. There are some nibbles to the footrims commensurate with use and age. Some small signs of kiln debris throughout commensurate with manufacture. With some rubbing and scratches to the glaze, particularly to the inside of the rim commensurate with use and age. Otherwise both vases appear structurally sound.

SIGNED FLORENCE E. BARLOW (ENGLISH, 1856-1909), DOULTON LAMBETH DECORATED ANIMAL MOTIF STONEWARE JUG, salt-glazed with cobalt accents, featuring incised images of ewes and lambs, having additional vertical foliate designs to neck and above foot. Marks to underside include incised artist initials "FEB" and impressed "DOULTON / LAMBETH" with "1875" to middle. Doulton Lambeth, London, England. Circa 1875. 8 7/8" HOA. Catalogue Note: Artist Florence Barlow was born in Hertfordshire, England in 1856. She joined the Doulton art studio in 1873, two years after her sister Hannah who was the first female artist employed there. In addition to Hannah, her brother Arthur and sister Lucy also worked at the factory. Like her sister, Florence also used the sgraffito technique, incising images of animals and birds on stoneware. She later became known for her beautiful pate-sur-pate bird and floral images. Florence retired from the factory in 1909, dying later that year.

Some tiny marks and scrapes to the restoration. A few small chips to the edge of the foot rim and with natural wear.
