Son of French sculptor Antoine-Louis Barye, Alfred Barye was trained by his father to sand cast bronze sculptures. The two had an off-and-on, tempestuous relationship all their lives. The earliest Alfred Barye artwork, done in his childhood years, depicted wild animals that lived near his home. Alfred Barye's art for sale includes meticulously patina-coated, bronze animals that show the same skill and eye for detail expressed in his father’s sculpting.
Alfred Barye's sculptures were known for their detail and sense of movement, especially those of horses that showcased their muscular structure. Alfred Barye's sculptures were exhibited regularly at the Salon Paris from 1864-66, and then again in 1882. You can purchase sensational animal sculptures online that are sure to satisfy the wildlife lover in you.

Leski Auctions Pty LtdAlfred (Alf. Barye or A. Barye Fils) Barye (1839 - 1882) "Le Cavalier Arabe" Bronze Sculpture. Signed on base of sculpture Barye. Also includes foundry mark on reverse of base 'FABRICATION FRANCAISE/PARIS/ MADE IN FRANCE'. Alfred was born in Paris, France, the son of Antoine Louis Barye the famous Animalier sculptor, on January 21st 1839. Alfred was an accomplished artist and sculptor in his own right, but for his entire career he worked in the shadow of his much better known and more famous father. He signed many of his sculptural works Barye or A. Barye, the same signature that was used by his father. This causes as much confusion today as it did during his lifetime and many of Alfred's models are mistakenly attributed to and sold as his father's works. After much family disagreement and at the insistence of his father, he began signing his work Alf. Barye, and later A. Barye Fils. It has been suggested but never confirmed that Alfred Barye was responsible for quite a few unauthorized life time casts of his father's works. Artist: Alfred Barye Title: "Le Cavalier Arabe" Medium: Bronze Signature Type: Signed Signature Location: base Approx. Net Weight: 115 lbs.
