Joe Neil Beeler Sold at Auction Prices

Painter, Illustrator, Sculptor, b. 1931 - d. 2006

Famously recognized as a Western genre artist and sculptor, Joe Beeler was born in Missouri in 1931. As a youth, the gifted young artist dreamed of becoming a cowboy. In 1950, Beeler enrolled in the University of Tulsa where he studied under the tutorship of artist Alexandre Hogue. While drafted in the army during the Korean war, he illustrated amusing cartoons for Stars and Stripes, a service newspaper.  During his annual exhibits, Beeler received numerous gold and silver medals in excellence for his sculptures and drawings. Beeler won the Arizona History Maker award from the Arizona Historical Society in 1997. Founding member of the Cowboy Artists of America, artist Joe Beeler received their Special Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.                   Joe Neil Beeler (1931 - 2006) "Geronimo" Bronze Sculpture. A founding member of the Cowboy Artists of America, Joe Beeler was a pioneer in contemporary western art and is accomplished in both painting and bronzes. At annual exhibitions of the CAA, Beeler earned numerous Sculpture Awards. In 2001, he received the CAA Special Lifetime Achievement Award. A 1960 one-man show at the Thomas L Gilcrease Museum in 1960 launched his career of national acclaim, honors, and awards. From 1962, he and his family have lived in Sedona, Arizona where his studio has been on five acres of land. In 2002, he was selected by the family of Barry Goldwater, former United States Senator from Arizona, to sculpt the statue of the Senator for a one-acre park named for him at Tatum and Lincoln streets in Paradise Valley.                   Joe Neil Beeler (1931 - 2006) "More Horse Tradin" (Illustration) Charcoal on Paper. This work is an illustration from the classic Western Americana book by Ben K. Green titled: Some More Horse Tradin', Illustrated by Joe Beeler. A founding member of the Cowboy Artists of America, Joe Beeler was a pioneer in contemporary western art and is accomplished in both painting and bronzes. At annual exhibitions of the CAA, Beeler earned numerous Sculpture Awards. In 2001, he received the CAA Special Lifetime Achievement Award. A 1960 one-man show at the Thomas L Gilcrease Museum in 1960 launched his career of national acclaim, honors, and awards. From 1962, he and his family have lived in Sedona, Arizona where his studio has been on five acres of land. In 2002, he was selected by the family of Barry Goldwater, former United States Senator from Arizona, to sculpt the statue of the Senator for a one-acre park named for him at Tatum and Lincoln streets in Paradise Valley.
