Frame size: 39 3/4 in. x 44 in. Howard Behrens was born in Chicago. He holds a Bachelors and a Masters Degree in Fine Art from the University of Maryland. He has had over 150 one-man shows from coast-to-coast since becoming a professional artist in 1980. Howard Behrens, the world's most renowned palette knife artist. As a landscape and seascape artist, Howard Behrens has painted the idyllic lakes of Italy to the gardens of New England. Behren's works have been on the covers of many art publications and he has been the featured subject of numerous magazines and newspapers. After visiting Giverny, France, the artist created a Tribute to Monets' series that was exhibited at the Embassy of France in Washington, D. C. Howard Chesner Behrens, born on August 20th, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois, was an American painter renowned for his vibrant, palette-knife paintings that often reflected his love of travel, photography, and color theory. Educated at the University of Maryland, College Park, he earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in painting and sculpture before working seventeen years at the U.S. Government Printing Office. In retirement, Behrens pursued painting full-time, achieving widespread popularity through galleries, auctions, cruise ships, and major retail outlets. Living in Potomac, Maryland after his second marriage, he continued producing thick, post-Impressionist-inspired canvases until his death on April 14th, 2014, following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

He began drawing at age seventeen after being confined to bed following a sledding accident. His formal education in art was at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned a master's degree in painting and sculpture. Behrens was hired by the United States Government Printing Office, where his father was employed as a printer, and worked there for the next seventeen years. t. His passion for travel, for trying new techniques, and his endless hours of painting after work helped him to create his own style of painting with a palette knife. Howard Behrens (1933-2014) American, Large Offset Lithograph. Title: "Bellagio Promenade." Signed in print bottom right. Condition: Great. Overall Size: 42 x 32 in. Sight Size: 29 x 21 1/2 in. Howard Chesner Behrens was born on August 20th, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up near Washington, D.C. He began drawing at age seventeen after being confined to bed following a sledding accident. His formal education in art was at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned a bachelors and master’s degree in painting and sculpture. Behrens was hired by the United States Government Printing Office, where his father was employed as a printer, and worked there for the next seventeen years. In his retirement he focused again on painting, becoming a very popular artist as his works were sold in fine art galleries, at auctions, on cruise ships, and in several major retail and wholesale outlets. He developed a style of using a palette knife to paint on canvas, sometimes making incredibly thick and heavy works that used post-Impressionist techniques to combine his interests in travel, photography, and color theory. After Behrens’ second marriage he resided in Potomac, Maryland, where he died on April 14th, 2014 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
